It’s because it’s a global platform for LC. In every other global area you can get a diesel that offers the 3rd row seats in the LC. If you pay attention the Lexus model rear plastics and cup holders are completely different, so it doesn’t share with that platform. We don’t get the diesel because California is a communist state that for some reason other loonies copy for their regs…. Hybrid only for us. Battery in rear so no 3rd row.

2001 Landcruiser owner here and loved this review! We use ours for camping and having the 2nd row seats fold is crucial for fitting a mattress in the back to sleep, and the cup holders come in handy for that setup as well (even if it wasn’t intentional on their end!) We were considering getting a new one but they left out a huge part of this car design that we love, the tailgate! It used to be a bi-fold that you could use for seating or as a table space and now it’s just a life gate. Such a miss on their redesign.

1. the interior dark colour and fabric seats are part of the basic trim that you were reviewing called the 1958 with the round head lamps. 2. 3rd row amenities are there because in other parts of the world (eg Europe) it is offered with a diesel engine and 3rd row seats because not all markets get the Lexus GX

That's exactly how the 4Runner trunk is too and it's been that way for years. Even the flip seats for access to the "third row" trunk.

It’s a global vehicle. Other countries that do not get the hybrid power train get the third row. We do not since that is where your hybrid battery sits.

Disagree! I prefer more rugged vehicles and am, in fact, a mom. I specifically searched “car mom Land Cruiser” to see if car seats would fit in the back. 😆
