My husband is Caucasian and I'm a black woman. His family was very upset when he introduced me. This was ten years ago. And I can still feel the humiliation. A very painful time in both of our lives. What shocked me was the hatred they had towards me, simply because of my skin. We barely knew each other. We never spoke before. But once they saw a black woman, they shut me down. My husband spoke to them many times, but after ten years, he no longer speaks to his family. So much damage was done, coming at a cost of our peace. Sadly, since we stop talking to them, we found so much peace in our marriage. It was difficult decision for us, but his family wasn't willing to change their prejudice and racist ways. No one should have to suffer in this kind of treatment. Every human should be treated fair.🙏🏿♥️

I am glad to have come across such an experience for now I have an Asian boyfriend and wants to introduce me soon to his family and part of his family are racist and always felt they will never accept me but after reading your experience I have hope for we love each other and we happy and feel if family would not accept me I will have to turn a blind eye and live life

I've been with my wife for 21years and coming from a country we neva saw black people or any other races it was a bit of shock for my family in Albania but no way anyone was disrespectful to my wife and they welcomed her with open arms. Beautiful couple. Every ethnicity comes in every shade including white people but orange? Do you see naturally orange white people? If you see that it comes from a tanning lotion or bed or what have you. I'm not pink, not orange, not white.....I'm buff beige. Lol! Btw some families don't just shun you if you marry a different ethnicity. My husbands' family shuns us because we have a profoundly disabled adult child. Some people fear difference, they fear what they don't understand and don't like being out of their comfort zone. So it's easier for them to pretend you don't exist any longer. My dad passed away and he never met my late husband because he didn't come to our wedding and when I said I would bring him over so they could meet my dad told me "don't bother unless he's as black as me". That statement hurt me to the core and put distance between my dad and I. My mom loved my late husband and his family. We are all God's children and I thank Him for giving me the best mother-in-law ever.

I ended it for my mental health cause he was a moms boys and never defended me. I respect you guys for being so honest. I give you guys all the praise...to be able to endure the truths about Jay's side of the family. Jay...how did you escape their way of thinking. You are a wonderful man in every sense. I have biracial grand kids. I'm happy knowing the white grandparents are accepting as well...but when it comes to the great grands...they are not. When I hear these stories I realize how blessed I am. My husband is " of European decent"😂😂 and I am not. Black and proud!!😊. But my in laws have always been loving. Interestingly, Im black and my family was very excepting. My husband is lebanese and he has fought and tried to educate his family on their unaccepting attitude towards me. They love the grandkids and after 32 years we are very cordial towards each other. It was nothing but the grace of God giving me a forgiving spirit for them. My heart goes out to Jay.

When I was dating my now ex boyfriend, who is white, he spent every holiday, birthday, any and all special events with my family for almost 10 years. They loved him and treated him like he was a brother, uncle or cousin. But not once in those almost 10 years did I ever get invited to be with his side of the family, except for with his mom and stepdad for any special family events. He claims that some of his extended family members were racists and he just wanted to avoid the negative comments and fights that would probably happen by having me show up to a family gathering. I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt my feelings. I wish he had invited me anyway but it is what it is. As I stated, he's my ex now lol.

I’m a bi racial woman born in 1969 to a white mother black father it was not accepted back then my mom was disowned but my fathers side was open arms I look more black and was raised to be black and proud never denying my white mama love has no color and it just saddens me that the race issue has been resurfacing more the last few years

@@MrIdj69 Agreed. Racial tension never disappeared. We need to work within our circles to deal with a person's actions and not deal with their skin color to lump them into categories. The pandemic has made us slow down and given us time to reflect on past and present actions. None of us has the time to reflect on how this planet got so divided by skin color. It doesn't matter. It never did. All skin colors were made in God's image. Scientist claim to prove that life started on the African continent. If that's true then that means we are ALL Africans, not just darker skinned people. One step further, if you believe the Bible then you would know that EVERY person alive today descended from Noah, Shem, Ham and Japhet. If you hate me because I am dark then you are hating yourself. How could we possibly not be related to each other? Racism is stupid and a waste of time. I, personally, do not have time to hate someone because of their skin color.

Greetings from Washington DC. To be honest, your kids aren't missing anything. If there is no love for you, and your family, you are and your kids aren't missing anything. BUT, your family (the Grandparents) ARE missing out! There seems to be much love for them if they would recieve it. It's very sad to hear, but your family is not alone. I live in the south and my parents grew up in the 60’s. And I always heard N this and N that. But I didn’t choose that path and I don’t talk that way. I’ve always taught my children to be color blind. Once my daughter was put on a all black softball team and they shunned her because she was white. She didn’t understand why they were treating her that way. I simply told her it wasn’t her fault and just continue to be kind no matter what. My oldest son who is an adult now just asked his beautiful sweet girlfriend to be his bride. We couldn’t be more happier with his choice. I’ve been called racist because of my political views but these people do not know me. So it doesn’t bother me. If they only knew my future daughter in love is biracial. She’s the most beautiful person inside and out. And I’m so glad she’s going to be apart of our family. I’ve always told my children that there’s not a white Heaven, black Heaven, Asian Heaven or purple Heaven. There’s only one Heaven and we darn well learn to get alone and love each other. Jay brought up a good point about the grandparent/grandchild relationship. There's but so much knowledge and wisdom that parents can give to their children. Grandparents have more of that to share and they miss out on giving (and getting) if they choose not to be in their grandkids' lives.
