Fun fact. West shot the movie on the same set immediately after production on “X” wrapped, to make pearl. "We’re already building all of this stuff, it’s COVID and we’re on the one place on Earth where it’s safe to make a movie."

I went into this movie blind and did not pick up on the fact that Mia Goth played both Maxine and Pearl and was blindsided when the credits revealed it. It's clear in hindsight but the combination of the makeup and Goth's astounding dual performance still floors me. Fun reaction as always. I think you are going to love Pearl. Both as a stand-alone film, and for how it enhances X.

Honestly, I like X but it just feels more like an homage to old slashers from the 70’s/80’s. Now Pearl on the other hand, was my top film of 2022. I love it so much that I bought and framed the poster for it. Pearl has a lot more going on character wise, it’s shot really well and just feels a lot more original. Plus Mia Goths performance was deserving of an Oscar nomination.

Pearl is sort of a prequel to X. Pearl is the name of the elderly woman, and Howard is her husband. Pearl, is what you might call her origin movie and how she descended into madness. Equally chilling if not more so. BTW, Mia Goth plays both characters Pearl and Maxine in this film, it was a big gotcha moment when I discovered this.

I read somewhere that each death is foreshadowed. We see a crocodile in the wall background when we first see Bobby-Lynne. Wayne: “Their eyes are gonna pop right out their skulls”. Lorraine is the first one to notice the rifle when Howard aims it a Wayne when they arrive. The same one that that kills her later on. Not really sure about the others. Ty West really did THE MOST with this one. Everything was thought of. Can’t wait for your “Pearl” reaction

This and Pearl were shot down here in New Zealand back to back during one of our Covid lockdowns. The effects were done by the team at Weta Workshop (where I work 😊). It was so much fun to see gore back at the workshop as well as the incredible Pearl character make up Mia Goth wore. It’s a great love letter to 70s slashers such as the original Texas Chainsaw.

Yea, no.. I knew her from Scream 5, then realized she was in The Babysitter 2, and appeared briefly, as a kid, in one of my favorite ghost franchises Insidious.. So, I got a little more hype for a new scream queen.. Then her screaming scene became iconic in the X trailers and I became a huge fan, following everything she's in now, and then Wednesday came around.. Can't wait to keep seeing her in more horror, hopefully.. but I'm probably gonna give Miller's Girl a shot

Fun fact! The director of this movie was in “You’re Next” he played “Tariq” amy’s boyfriend who was the first one to die. This is apart of a trilogy. Pearl is a prequel where we learn more about pearl’s character and what happened to her in her youth & the new one that’s coming in july is a sequel to x and the last one in the trilogy! It’s called Maxxxine & i’m so excited for it! Halsey’s in it!

I fuckin LOVED THIS MOVIE it was my favorite horror movie of 2022. The cast is great, I like how this is an elevated slasher, the kills were fun, the old couple was so weird, the acting was great, it was unnerving especially during the infamous old couple sex scene (I saw that in theaters and let me say that was such a visual especially with how loud it was), and this movie introduced me to Mia Goth who I’m in love with now as an actor. She actually also played the old woman Pearl in this movie so that was really impressive playing Maxine and Pearl. The prequel to this movie called Pearl is also fantastic. The concluding chapter of this trilogy Maxxxine is coming out this year and I’m so hyped for it bc it’s about to go down as one of the best horror trilogies ever. I love the commentary about aging in this movie.

A24 movies are more indie/artsy/elevated/philosophical while simultaneously being grounded. I think that's why their horror stands out. It manages to not just scare you, but unnerve you. I'd recommend you react to A Ghost Story (not horror, drama) but there's no dialogue for 90% of the movie, so maybe just check it out on your own time. Also, check out their website and list of movies. I bet there are loads of movies on that list that you didn't know they did.

He also has done The Innkeepers and House of the Devil. Definitely worth checking out! Love the content 🤘🏼
