Someone with the guts to show what behaviour modification with a dog that is displaying aggression, not fear aggression but aggression, looks like. Roger Abrantees highlights that in his opinion there is no such thing as fear aggression. Rather a fear or arousal that then causes aggression. Once the decision to use aggression has been made fearfulness falls away. You have shown this dog that the use of his aggression was a mistake, and proof is in the pudding, I do not see a shut down, depressed dog, but one who will be more likely to make a better choice in future. He didn’t love it, but for punishment to be effective it’s not supposed to be pleasant. Well done.
@DC-xv5po2 жыл бұрын
I do not know who that is, but if he said that there is no fear aggression in a dog... o boy is he wrong. Of course, it's not the case for this dog. But I could invite him to join a training session, I can even say a rehabilitation session with a dog or two over here in my country. When animals get mistreated, they can develop a fear agrression. When a dog tries to bite you and yells and hides and tucks up his tail and backs up in the same time, without you doing nothing to him other than just trying to approach him, well that dog shows fear aggression. There is no "no more fear", there is only fear for him and looking for a way out. There's a big difference between a dog trying to bite because he is unsecured of fhe situation and does not know how and what to do in that situation, him obviously making a bad decision, and a dog that tries to show his teeth and will eventually bite out of fear because that could possible saves his life. Of course, I'm talking about some bad cases, but if this Roger said that, I'm sure he didn't trained too many adopted dogs.
@petereleftheriou96682 жыл бұрын
@@DC-xv5po it comes down to exactly what you said. In a moment of fear we have several systems we can employ to keep ourselves safe. The two most common are fight or flight. The behaviour you describe in your example is the threat of aggression coupled with the dog actually trying to get away, based on the body language you described (tucked tail, air snapping etc) The cause of the behaviour is 100% fear, no arguments here, but the second a decision is made to use actual aggression, approach behaviour with the intent of harm there can no longer be fear, it is counter intuitive. That being said the animal can very quickly go back into avoidant or defensive aggression if that option becomes available to it again. In this video we see a dog using a well rehearsed strategy, it may stem from an initial over arousal or fearful response but due to reinforcement history the dog now feels confident in the behaviour. This is why CC(counter conditioning) or DS (desensitisation) would not be ideal strategies in dealing with the behaviour. We need to acknowledge the differences between ritualised (threat of aggression) and actual aggression (intent to due physical damage). This is my understanding of what Dr Roger abrantes talks about in his work, I may be misunderstanding. Quite a lot of what we know about dog training has come from his studies and work. Worth checking out. www.seasidesignal.com/opinion/canine-corner/canine-corner-fear-does-not-equal-aggression-in-dogs/article_3ababac2-a7cd-11e9-abc3-cfb164dd8268.html

@@petereleftheriou9668 You are talking about a dog that will bite with the intention to harm. Dogs that are fear aggressive will only bite out of either pure instinct, or learned behaviour (that if he bites, he will get away from the threat). A dog has to be teached/trained what can be harmful and what not. He is not trying to kill a person, he will atack just to get a chance to get away. Yes it's a system, but this doens't mean it's no longer fear, cause that would mean that the dog will go into anger and try to actually do harm. We can't say that a dog is aggressive if he just doens't try to flight and expose himself as a victim. That wouldn't even be a dog in my oppinion. These dogs that I'm talking about, after someone will win their trust, they will be best doggos in the world, just for that someone, nobody else. And they can be teached how to be indifferent to other people or whatever started their reactivity. Just because some dogs get a bad start with their lives, doens't mean they're aggressive or broken or bullies or killers. Again, I'm just talking about some, not the one from this video.

Watch his loose leash walking video. He says for most dogs, he finds if you do it right, it doesn't matter if it sits lower. Obviously you don't want it way down by the chest or loosely hanging, but right behind the ears doesn't make much of a difference as long as you know how to apply the correction.

"Bribery not required" Ah only suppression. If you knew what you were talking about you would understand operant conditioning and that punishment solely suppresses behaviour so the dog isn't actually learning anything. Remove the punisher and the behaviour returns, these are laws of psychology not opinions like what you'll experience with trainers like this. Go get an education before training dogs.
@SoundDr Жыл бұрын
Let me know when you start selling 100k dollar dogs to police departments. The dog learns that certain behaviors gets punishment and certain behaviors get him awarded. The dog is extremely reliable even without tools because the dog knows the handler could also punish him with his body and without tools which keeps the dog from doing those behaviors.
