The only reason you should buy a Tacoma is for reliability. That is why Toyota refuses to upgrade their transmissions in many if their vehicles. Why fix something that isn't broke? They still have a timing chain instead of a cheap rubber belt -- this vehicle WILL get 350,000 miles out of her.

When I was shopping for a truck I looked at all the mid-sizers and ended up pulling the trigger on a GMC AT4 full-size pickup truck. Just made more sense to me all-around value-wise. Plus I usually trade in every 3-5 years anyway. I love this GMC so much though I am thinking it might be a keeper, the only thing I miss is how easy it is to park a mid-size truck vs the full size. Those Toyotas get around so much easier at stores than the full-sized ones. Who knows though, maybe next time I'll get a Tacoma, we'll see. Good job on the review man!

Not sure how an at4 is a "value" truck. My bro paid $80k on the road for his(in Canada). A premium Tacoma off road or premium sport is about $53k on the road here. Big difference! The Tacoma will also retain its value better.

The biggest issue now is even getting your hands on one lol. My dealer was saying I couldn't even reserve a TRD pro. I would literally have to be at the dealership on the day they receive one and wait there for when they open. Buying a vehicle nowadays is so ridiculous. I got lucky and reserved a 2023 limited nightshade edition in dark metallic gray. I was going to get an off-road, but who knows how long the wait for that would be in any of the colors/packages I wanted. The limited will be fine for what I personally need right now with a few mods done to it. I live in south east PA, and I currently won't be using it for a ton of rock crawling or anything crazy, so the crawl mode and that stuff isn't really necessary.

I have a 2017 cement TRD Pro. The only disappointment is the necessity of the ECT button. With 278 hp, you should not have the motor keep upshifting on a mild expressway grade. That much power in a light pick up truck should come on early instead of having to hit 4000K RPMs. The 2013 I had before had low end torque. I would sacrifice lower gas mileage for more power in the low rev's.

The stiffer suspension and larger tires on the Off Road made a poor ride. I purchased the TRD Sport because I’m not a serious off roader. I want a daily driver and still have good off road capability when I need it. The Sport trim has the same 9.4 inch ground clearance and skid plates. I got a 2018 double cab SR5 and its perfect for anything I throw at it camping, hiking, any garbage hauling, or material for house upgrades. Roughest off roading I do is looking for camping or hiking spots , I really couldnt see the need for a TRD for my personal use or paying an extra 20k more... What he said is true if you off-road it might be worth it but thats a big price dif.

Theres nothing floaty about it either...Ive driven 75-80mph across Montana(especially western Mt) its solid on the road. For me personally,.the seats in the PRO (soft tec) were WAY better than the cloth ones in my 2016 offroad ....especially long distance driving. Drivin conservative...shell do 20 ish around town and 23 ish on the road...SOLID TRUCK...prolly trade for a 2022 Trd pro...

Would be nice if they offered a "long bed" option for this truck with the extended cab. I realize that they probably don't because of the difficulties presented from the longer wheelbase, but I think that's a choice that the buyer should be able to make. Short beds just aren't large enough for the things I use a truck for.

Genuine question, what are the difficulties associated with a long bed? Contemplating a trd sport with the 6 foot bed for the utility aspect!
@Crosby4hyg
@Crosby4hyg 2 жыл бұрын
@@VC30577 I ended up picking up a double cab, long bed TRD Sport shortly after commenting this. The only disadvantage of a long truck is that the longer wheelbase can cause high centering and scraping when going over high, narrow bumps. I'm extremely happy with my truck it's handled everything I've needed with ease. All of that said, I'd recommend going for a TRD off road if you can find a long bed, (they do exist). The TRD sport really doesn't offer any functionality over the SR5, and you're really just paying a few grand more for a hood scoop. TRD off road offers locking rear differential and crawl control.

I had a 2016 TRD Sport. I bought it with plans to keep it, as I had kept my previous Toyota for 15 years. However, when I took the Sport in for regular service, the dealer offered me such a good deal, to trade to the Pro, that I could not pass it up. Also, with the sales tax break you get, from the State of Indiana, if you trade, it was not an advantage to sell the Sport outright. The Sport was great. I would surmise that the trim level is choice based on the purchaser's individual considerations, which may include budget. My reason for buying the Pro was the lust I had for the color...lol...One thing is for sure, if you purchase any Toyota product, it is likely to hold it's value you well, and you probably will not have to see your service department a lot. The dealer currently is bugging me to sell our FJ Cruiserto them, outright, for more than I paid for it, 4 years and 50k miles ago.

@bigoneish 3 жыл бұрын
@@terrynichol577 you say that but that's not what I was saying. The pro is way over priced to just get a few more functions than the offroad package. The suspension is supposed to be the biggest convincing part about buying a pro from any of the other models. If you know anything about cars and the difference between what you're getting than you would know it's not worth it. With the price difference between that and even the sr5 model you can easily upgrade the "lower" end model to be better and still have money left over . If you're talking about cheap you've obviously haven't seen how the ranger, colorado and even the frontier have outclassed the tacoma. #facts

Uncomfortable seats, terrible infotainment, rear seat legroom wasnt very good for its class, anemic v6 that needed to rev out all the time and not even relatively close mpg to epa. Lets also not forget that the resale value is the best of any truck and most vehicles. Only bested by the Land Cruiser. Another Toyota vehicle. If only the made it bigger.
