I used my own measurements in the video to show a non-standard body. Measurements required: 1. Armscye Depth - how to measure in video 2. (Full) Bust 3. Nape to Waist 4. Waist to Hip 5. Neck Size 6. Shoulder Length 7. Back Width 8. Chest Width 9. Dart width - in video 10. Waist

So grateful to have found your IG and YT pages. On draft 4 of my moulage using the instructions from Suzy Furrer’s book and craftsy class. The first muslin I sewed up several years ago using her method fit well but life got in the way and I never made the adjustments needed before making the sloper. Here I am some years later with added weight and an even larger bust and I am having a difficult time getting the fit right for my updated muslin. Will definitely try these options! I actually have downloadable copies of the books in my online library. Was trying to decide which other method(s) I would try if I my Suzy version doesn’t pan out. Your videos have given me some direction as a busty plus. Many thanks!

I completely understand your sentiment! My first foray into making a sloper years back also led to too many alterations which overwhelmed me. Hopefully one of these works out for you! Good luck :)

This is amazing. Thank you. I was so frustrated trying to do a sloped as a busty gal. I bought the book and will try it out! How was the shoulder slope? My shoulders are quite square, so I'll probably have to adjust that.

So sorry I missed this - I found it to fit my shoulders well, but I've also never had to do many alterations for my shoulders except to shorten then seam.

Hello Shilyn, I have a confusing problem, I am a size 26 uk size, I have all three books of winifred aldrich - womens, mens and childrens wear. i want to create my own pattern but i am not sure how to go about it for such a plus size. Where do i make adjustments in measurement on the womens tutorial.
@ShilynSews10 ай бұрын
You'll use your own measurements to draft it! The armscye depth has a "standard" but I go over how to measure that in the beginning of the video. The dart width chart (at approx 3:43) will have the dart width measurement when you get to that part of drafting. Hopefully that helps!

I know the calculations for the dart! Dart Width = ((Bust - Waist) x (Dart Length)) / (4 x Waist To Bust Point) Dart length is from side neck to nipple.

Ooh interesting! Do you by chance know the theory behind this? I just did the math for myself, and still got a number about 2x larger than the dart. Do you know if it assumes anything (like that the figure is a B cup) or smaller/no waist darts? If not, I understand! I just like knowing how things "work". lol

This is an excellent tutorial. Thanks for doing all the calculations 😊

Im so confused i did ur calculations and ended up getting a length of 1.85 but the book says back dart w = 3.5 a need front dart w = 4.5

why does the author say use the standard measurement for armscye depth when we can take our own measurement??

I'm totally confused...but I don't have the book. I'm sure if I had the book and was following along, things would make sense. What software are you using? It seems easier than drawing. Maybe I would follow along with that. I can sew. I can follow printed commercial patterns and have a good idea on pattern construction. I have an idea on some alterations and am learning more on resizing. Pattern drafting is new to me and seems like a logical step in my progression. I'm mostly self-taught, and I'm a fast learner when it comes to sewing and other fabric crafts.(crochet and knitting) I understand how basic shaping works and how to put things together. I am interested in purchasing the book even before I watched it. I think if I went ahead and bought it, then come back, everything will make sense. Thank you for taking the time to share this information.

Feel free to email me and I can send a snapshot for you to reference. Ill have to check, but i believe the instructions are on one or two pages. Perhaps the confusing part is that it's not laid out all at once in the video? I just used Adobe Illustrator to show how to do it!

Have you tried using the free online tool made for pattern makers: Pattern Maker Pro? Testing it out now and love it plus the support for programmers and the user community is great

What is SOL?

I didn't realize how much I said that! It means sh*t out of luck or strictly out of luck. It's slang for when what you want/need isn't available and you feel hopeless in the situation.
@skirtedgalleons Жыл бұрын
Whelp, I tried my best. I can't make it work. I've tried several times and the systems these are based on can't predict a plus sized large busted person. The shapes just get really weird. So, I'll go back to draping and doing a tape form. I had good luck doing that. Sigh.
@ShilynSews Жыл бұрын
Aw, I'm sorry it didn't work. It's hard to find a system, especially when they don't explicitly talk about which body assumptions they made for the "standards" they created.
@skirtedgalleons Жыл бұрын
@@ShilynSews I really appreciated your tables for the plus sizes. Thank you! What happened is I ended up with no room for the armscyes and my having a sway back messes up the front and back balance. I'm convinced the best methods for me would be either use a standard plus size sloper and do all my adjustments or tape mold to pattern. It was a good experiment though and I still like the Aldrich book for pattern alterations.
