First of all...Shimano is really going cheap...!! I just bought a brand new road bike (2020 model) equiped with Tiagra Hidraulic STI and after a couple of rides, same ratling noise aperared and was driving me mental...!! Very dissapoint to find out poor material savings on construction of "lower" models from Shimano...! I´m glad at least you found out and shared with us the real issue and how to fix it...! Thanks a lot...!

Thanks very much for posting this very informative and easy-to-follow guide. Glueing those pins has just solved the noise issue I've put up with for 10 months!

Did you need to also fit a rubber or foam tab into the inner roof of the housing or was it sufficient to just glue the pins?

Greatly video solved my problem. brought a brand new bike on Wednesday noticed this rattling noise and when I put my finger on the lever the noise goes couldn't figure out where the problem was so I just Google search it have to be in on a 55 mile ride this morning and the roads where I live on not what you call great and the vibration they're just drove me mad so with the Google Search you popped up because I'm already subscribed to your channel. One happy man

Did you use all 3 techniques shown? Why didn’t you take it back to the place you bought it and ask them to fix it if you don’t mind me asking?
@scottishjimmy98134 жыл бұрын
Also the video mentions taking off the wheel which will allow you to push the break all the way in. However, doesn’t this close your disc brake pads which means it’s difficult to open them again?

Thank you for the video! I ended up putting some black electric tape over those pins and added a bit of foam under the hood. Problem solved! Back to riding now..

going to try this first. Glue makes me nervous. I was wondering if even a thin piece of bar tap instead of foam might work too. I'm trying this today.
@hunteraswanson4 жыл бұрын
Melissa Oppliger the tape worked really well, but eventually the adhesive gummed up. I would try guerrilla tape maybe. I eventually did super glue and it actually messed with the return actuation because that pin was unable to pivot. I fixed it by hitting the pin with a hammer/screwdriver till it released.

What size is the fixing screw for the name plate? When I went to put Locktite on the screw, it was missing on both levers!
@utube7930 Жыл бұрын
On the r7000 mechanical there is also shifter rattle noise. I found it can be one of two parts. The nut under the nameplate can be loose, but more noise can be heard from the 'main lever support'- a small plastic part which needs a bit of grease before replacing

Amazing. This was driving me mad. I even had Shimano warranty a pair of 7020's for this reason and of course the new ones were no different. I'm very surprised at the different construction of the 8020 vs the 7020.

Hello my screw like in te minute 6:14 fell on a bike ride, you have any information about this screw? number of part or dimensions?
@darinsteele70917 ай бұрын
my new 4700 hydro left shifter does the same exact thing, it's the pin inside that moves a bit...not sure if it's worth warranty claim because outside on the road i probably can't hear it, but inside where its quiet its a creaking noise but at least the shifter doesn't rattle around.

My little plastic cover on the shifter is loose. It's the little piece that is right underneath the area where the pin is/metal part of the shifter. If you pause at 09:50, is the little plastic covering that is right below (meaning towards the ground) the two metal bits of the shifter arm that run parallel to each other, basically between that and the rubber cover. I don't know what happened but I feel like it's going to break off, it's very loose. I wish I could show a pic of what I'm talking about LOL. Ever had issues with that if you understand what I'm talking about?
@snafujag1003 жыл бұрын
I did this and it worked! But the epoxy had a reaction with the pin, sort of dissolved it. I had a silver metallic weeping from the area. It never got any worse and the rattle never returned. Maybe the epoxy I used was not intended for metal?

Wouldn’t pressing the hydraulic brakes after removing the wheel cause them to lock up ? I am certain that the noise is coming from the moving cap. I just need to tighten the screw. But I’m not sure if I should be doing this with the rotor off. What do you recommend?
@FreeToCycle3 жыл бұрын
If you press the brake with the disc removed then you will need to push the pads back to refit the disc back into the caliper!

Is it worth going through a warranty claim to get a new lever and dealing with bar tape, shifter cable and brake hydraulic lines?
@Bikey_McBeardface2 жыл бұрын
The new lever will rattle as well its not really a fault just poor design, the new GRX leavers (modeled on 105) do the same thing only worse!. If you are worried about voiding the warranty for any future issues then use a tiny square of duct tape on each end of the pin and double sided tape to fit the rubber. But to be honest I doubt a dab of glue would even be spotted by Shimano they wouldn't do anything more than simply look for obvious "crash damage" or "modifications" on a warranty claim.

That would be all about “105 is the same like Ultegra, just cheaper” ;-)
