Finally entering into the world of disc and your video really helped explain some of the question I had.

Important to know for my mtb buddies: the internal lockring-the one that works with the cassette tool is only usable for 12mm axles or slimmer. For your front wheel you will need the external lock ring - the one where you need a bottom bracket spanner.
@woduk5 ай бұрын
Yes for mtb forks with 15mm axles

what grease would you put on the splines/inside rotor? would Park Tool PPL-1 work good or is there any that woudl be better suited?

Thank you so much for the video. Please tell me how do I set torque if the rotor has to be secured with the second type of rotor securing ring you showed with the spanner? I think I would need a lock ring crowfoot spanner or lockring socket so I can fix either to my torque wrench but I have had no luck finding such a tool. Can you pls help or advise me?
@FreeToCycle2 жыл бұрын
You need an external tool such as the Park Tool BBT-69.2

nice video. 1Q: are the lock rings interchangeable? i mean do they fit across hubs?
@FreeToCycle5 жыл бұрын
Yes the Shimano lock rings are interchangeable between wheels.

Thanks for your helpful videos. I have a question though as I will soon receive a new set of wheels from LB with DT240 exp hub : my current wheels have an external lock wheel on the front and in internal one on the rear. Should I keep the same set up or can I use internal lock ring on both ? I didn't really get the difference between the two. I'd appreciate your take on this as I see you went from external to internal on your setup.

Internal if it’s a road bike!

Great video. I have a center lock disc brake with Shimano discs and the tool and it fits perfectly except...when I tighten it, it doesn't cinch up, it still has play. I don't know if I'm missing washers or if I just have to tighten more. Any ideas?
@FreeToCycle2 жыл бұрын
There should be one thin silver washer behind the lock ring.
@michaels87862 жыл бұрын
@@FreeToCycle Thanks. Yes, have that, but where does it go?
@FreeToCycle2 жыл бұрын
Behind the lockring!
@michaels87862 жыл бұрын
@@FreeToCycle Thanks, so you've confirmed I have all the right pieces. If I put it all together and tighten it but there's still play/looseness of the rotor, is it safe to tighten it more? I don't have a torque wrench that size so just want to make sure not to over tighten it. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to damage it if I start putting more oomph into it.

Is the lock-ring tool the same as for Shimano Cassettes (also 40nm), or do you need a separate tool?

Yes same tool as Shimano lock-ring!

do lock rings normally come with the hubs or the rotors?

If you purchase a new wheelset then the lock rings are usually included, same if you buy a disc rotor the lock ring will be included with it!

Depends on the brand of rotor. Shimano usually provides lock rings with rotors. Other brands such as TRP do not include the lock rings.

There is this misconception about greasing parts, I watched this dream bike build a while ago and that guy was greasing absolutely everything and not just little but big amounts. The total amount of grease I use on putting together a bike is two finger dips that's it.
