Great video, I have had a calais for 5 years and wanted to change the bearing on it. Do you think you could do a video on a shimano calais. The main thing is the bearing under the tesion/friction knob, there is metal that covers it and not just a spring like the citicas or curados. Keep up the good videos.

We'll see in the long run. I've been researching and on the forums a lot of people used them without the seals. Most of them say they work better without the seals but have to maintenance the bearings every 2-3 months. I like mines better without the seals and plus i had to flush mines out since one of them wasn't working and now it works. It's way too hard for me to put the seals on so im gonna have to use them like this.

@TeamRippnLipz1 Yeah they do but once you take them out it is very difficult in putting them back so i just left them out. And i think the bearings perform much better without the seals also.

I've seen videos were people take off the orange ring what do you thing about that does it help for anything or will damage the bearing eventualy???

I kept hearing you can use the orange ceramic bearing without the orange seals. If so, is it better? And do you only remove one of the seals on it. Or should i just leave them on. Do you have to maintenance them at all with the seals on. Please respond.

I was going to get the ceanan but it felt rough, and it sounded like metal on metal like urs does... Does that effect the performance? My pro max doesn't have a sound when it's reeled but the ceanan has a lot of grinding too it. Maybe it's just that reel

@AznBassAngler ARGH. while turning the reel handles spins the spool without any line on it, when i tie a tense line on the spool to spool, turning the handle doesn't spin the spool! it's like turning the reel handles don't have any real "teeth" on the spool to turn it. Help!

@TeamRippnLipz1 some reels have a plastic bushing under the spool tension knob instead of a bearing. I think thats what hes talking about.

Never mind it works now after flushing it out with acetone for 45 minutes. I'm using mines without the seals. I guess I'm gonna have to maintenance mines every 2-3 months.

............Or one could just keep their stock Abec 3 bearings properly Lube'd on a regular basis with a quality oil like the Bantam oil that Shimano reco's(and will send you for free if you ask) or Penn's synthetic reel oil. Many people people would agree that even the regular Abec 7 SS bearings(not ceramic) that I mentioned are uber overkill for a reel(especially a spinning reel). To each their own. Some people have to have the best. Just make sure your bearings aren't made in China kids.

I'm already disappointed with mines. One of them doesn't even spin. I'm flushing both mines with acetone to see how it goes. Hopefully the one that doesn't spin will eventually spin or I'm not buying them anymore.

The stock Shimano reel uses Abec 3 stainless steel bearings. These in his video are Abec 7 ceramic. No engineer in his/her right mind would argue that their isn't a substantial difference between said bearings. Alas, I agree that ceramic bearings in general are overpriced but many love them so to each their own. You can get a full set of ten Abec 7 Stainless Steel bearings for $25.00. You'll get a big increase in performance over the Abec 3's and save the difference for bait. Peace

stock factory shimano bearing have grease in them Clean them & add a light oil like yellow rocket fuel or REM OIL and the stock bearing will cast as good as those Over Priced boca bearings !!!

ten min video to change 2 bearings? lol wow, maybe you should show them the right way, NEVER put a side load an a bearing by pressing it in by the inner race, always the outer race, these are radial bearings desinged to with stand zero side load, just a little amount of side pressure could damage the bearings.
