I have the 4000xg twin power and love it, use it fresh water and salt without any problems, run 30lb braid for 20-40lb strippers and 15lb braid for fresh water. It was expensive but think it’s the only one in that group with the aluminum rotor, no flex under heavy load on big fish. Handles tossing some big jigs and plugs 3-5oz

I recently treated myself with a new Sustain. I was looking at the Vanford for a long time, but came up on an excellent offer at my local fishing sports. I only fish inshore, so I thought the Sustain would be a better fit. It is my first “good” reel and my first from Shimano. Could not be more happy, I completely understand why you think it’s amazing too.

Solid comparison bro, good real-life usage info. I know this review is a little old but you need to check the weights that you're talking about on these reels. With the exception of the Vanford, all three of the others are between 7.4 and 7.9 ounces. There were a few times where you were speaking about several ounce differences between reels when it's actually just tenths of an ounce. It could be confusing for a lot of people who might be interested in purchasing.

This is an awesome review. I’m going this weekend to buy a new Reel. My dad gave me a vanford C3000. I love that real and it was the last thing my dad gave me before he passed away but sadly it fell off my vehicle this past weekend and got lost 😢 so I think I’m gonna go back with that type but I’m also going to pick up an extra so, that’s awesome. Thank you very much.

I've owned a couple Sustain reels over the years and especially in recent years I have found they are not so special, feature and operational-wise for the extra money over the basic Stratic, as it has developed over time.. I now have several Exsence reels and have fallen hard for Daiwa Certate reels (despite always having been a true blue Shimano fan)! My last "want" is to get one of the Shimano Twin Power FD's, probably in the 3000 size, although am considering the 2500 also due to the extra power I hope to feel (at the expense of a little speed) to use on a MH spinning rod with 15 or 20# braid for some heavier applications like big worms, etc. when hunting for some bigger bass.
@vassilylucashenko

I'm with you on the Daiwa Certates Bruce, I've got several of the 1000 size (1003) and the larger (2 to 2.5) size Certates which are as smooth as butter and I use them for my trout fishing. I match them to a Daiwa Black Label rod, between 6' and 7' around 2 to 4 lbs and I can cast really well especially with Daiwa extra thin 12 strand braid. @@bruceraiken2806

Im European but let me share you my experience: Stradic FL (got the C3000HG and 5000XG), coresolid- tough strong and for more heavier fishing: swimbaits, spoons, saltwater etc. Vanford (owning 2500/C3000/C3000) using for finesse applications- got the mgl rotor which gives it that smoother feel and fast start up enertia: crig/dropshot/nedrig etc Sustain FJ(owning the 4000HG) is a bit like the mixture of the two: tough but with the MGL rotor which makes it good for both. Not using it for SW fishing but more for heavy fishing on rivers. TP I dont own but its the strongest of all of the above. Better for SW fishing. Used it a couple of times for big nothern pike and seabass.

I got into fishing very recently. For now im fishing for pike and zander mostly, sometimes to mix it up a little i try getting some bass and trout. I tried about every reel from every brand under the sun in the fishing store and got stuck on the Shimano Stradic FM 4000. That felt like the reel i got the most for my money. From that reel up the prices increase steeply with very little, sometimes nothing in performance increase.

Great, question. Definitely make sure you are going to keep using them consistently before upgrading reels. Once you know you are into fishing and going to stay into it, I would start upgrading. I went through multiple cheaper reels a year when I first started heavily fishing and I got tired of going through lots of reels, I started upgrading. Wish I would've spent my money on better reels from the beginning though.

I know it's been awhile but I wanted to ask. Every youtuber with a camera and an opinion mentions bearings and how more bearings is better. Where are these bearings? Nobody ever mentions why each bearing is where it is and what it does. There are Shimano reels that are $200 with only 4 bearings. There are sometimes 2 tiny bearings in the handle knob itself. Some new Chinese reels offer 13+1 bearings. I replaced the plastic bushings in my handle's knob with bearings and now my knob spins infinitely smoother. If I replace every bushing in a reel with bearings will it be an Ultimo-Reel9000? My point is that none of you youtubers ever mention the bearing location and how it makes things smoother.

Dude! Have you not noticed the big problem with the drag on the Vanford 3000 yet? Set the drag to be even between the Stradic and the Vanford and pull the out line on that Stradic 3000 and then pull out the line on the Vanford 3000. See how smooth and consistent they are? Feel the pressure with a sharp tug vs a slow pull on both of them? Do you notice the difference yet? Stradic uses felt washers (as they should) and the drag system is perfectly smooth and consistent. Vanford uses the new carbon drag washers and they are HORRIBLE! They stick, then let line out too quickly, then stick again. Try it a few times and you'll be pretty mad about it, lol I just got done swapping the washers in my Vanford 3000 out for felt washers and the problem was fixed instantly. Now it is one SMOOOOTH CRIMINAL! Shimano is discontinuing the carbon washers and going back to felt for this reason. The tough part is this: I noticed this as soon as I spooled the reel up with line... but not one single professional angler/reviewer seemed to notice...

Great video dude. Few small things a little off but it's not a deal breaker like some of the comments are trying to make it out to be. But few things from my experiences from the saltwater side of things. I have all 4 of these as well. Plus the twin XD and Stella FJ For structure fishing ( mangroves , docks ) stradic or twin power FD hands down due to the core frames and spools. The vanford and sustain have the mgl rotors they will flex under tighter drag settings / heavier loads Open water the vanford and sustain I personally think Shimano shot themselves in the foot with the sustain. This reel to me makes an angler no longer have to go past this reel. Unless have the money and wanna spoil yourself 😂 Stradic I have actually chased snook under docks to the point where I have swam for them. Dunked the reel multiple times. Washed off with freshwater and still smooth as butter Oh btw the twin power FD has felt drag washers which I absolutely hate

So, what’s wrong with an exceler? Does it catch fish any less frequently or snootily? Does it weigh more than one of these? Oh, and I can buy more than 2 of these for the same cost as one of these shamino’s. Btw, feel free to drive over your reel… even if it doesn’t break, if it doesn’t make you cry, then you must have more dollars than sense. Bottom line, excellent equipment does not make you a better fisherman.
@larsvegas1505
@larsvegas1505 3 ай бұрын
yes the exceler is not so smooth.. also weighs a lot more.. also doesnt last as long.. but hey its also not bad.. For me the stradics and vanford make more sense.. they are about 150-200 dollars.. (vanford is lighter so cost a bit more). I wouldnt pay 300+ for a sustain though.. internally it isnt much different to a vanford. The price diff is too much compared to the parts different.. its even worse for the more expensive models.

I own all four. The Vanford is easily the worst of the four but also the one I most enjoy fishing with. It’s so light and matches with a light rod and that’s how I fish. The weight is crucial for me.

I use the cheapest spincaster available. I use KastKing, Piscifun and Abu Garcia reels for $50.00! And guess what? I catch bass. Moral of this story is, it's the fisherman and bait you use that catches fish, not the equipment...
@CrankinWithChristian
@CrankinWithChristian 2 жыл бұрын
You can definitely catch fish on any gear, but with as much as I fish, cheaper gear does not hold up nearly as well. I could barely get 1 season out of some of the cheaper equipment, where I have some higher end reels which have lasted me multiple years and still are like new.
