Nicolas sounded like a post pubescent male teen (like 15+), which is what Shingo was not (again at least in season 1, I know he was probably meant to be older in later seasons like SuperS in which case I agree Nicolas was a good fit for those later eps)

Goodness gracious, Chiyoko Kawashima was SO MANY different characters. I'm impressed. It really looks like Viz should have cast a woman to be Shingo. I hear so many complaints about Shingo's voice (even though he's such a minor character). But it's justified, Shingo is 9 years old, right? Or at least an elementary schooler, his voice is way too deep. Not that I dislike the voice, if Shingo were Usagi's age then it'd be perfect. In any case, I look forward to the next video!

Futurestarra Good point. *However,* if they *had* to use a male actor, they could've used someone like Yuri Lowenthal or Ben Diskin. Yuri sounded like he was voicing a kid when voicing Yosuke from Persona 4. Same for Ben Diskin's role for Shoutmon from Digimon Fusion.

Considering where the ViZ dub is being recorded, why didn’t they use their wide array of VAs who have a history of voicing boys? Laura Bailey, Brianne Sidall, Wendee Lee? Heck they had Tara Sands in that one episode with the self-loathing painter, why didn’t they use her?

Ice Kokoro well considering this dub is a union which would prevent Laura Bailey or Brianne Sidall from taking part. Wandee Lee I guess could have. Tara Sands dose mostly Pokemon work in NY dubs and it’s pretty rare she does LA dubs. Nicolas Roye i guess does make a good Shiego even if the voice doesn’t sound close to an 11 year old kid but still a male. Well, I mainly prefer Nick because I personally think males should be voiced by males and females should be voiced by females regardless of age. I also pretty much see all of the DiC and Cloverway voices the negative of the Viz voices. Even if Juile might have fit his age better but not his personality and the overall voice comes out too girly. So, I think it is more fitting for Shiego to be voiced by a male since the series is already female oriented. However, I would only allow Tara Strong, Laura Bailey or Alexis Tipton. I am not saying Nicolas Roye is the best as there are other male voice actors out there who have better range to higher their voices then Nicolas like Ben Diskin, Johnny Yong Bosch, Dee Bradley Baker, James Arnold Taylor, Sam Riegel, Yuri Lowanthal, Max Mittelman, Spike Spencer or even Lucien Dodge. Heck, I think if Johnny Yong Bosch and Nicolas Roye switched roll it would have sounded much better. Since Johnny has voiced younger males like Renton Thurston, Yuchi Tara, Noby Nobi and Nate Adams. But since Sheigo was never really that much of a major character in the series I don’t think it would have made a difference.

Nate Adams I thought non-union actors could work on union projects. Then again I don’t know much about that. If I’m not mistaken, Tara Sands moved to LA like Veronica Taylor and Megan Hollingshead so I don’t think she does much, if at all stuff from NY these days. I guess they’ve got their reasons for doing what they do. Ain’t gonna protest it. Though I kind of wish the voice acting in the for the redub had a little more oomph to it. Sorry but how come you have to respond to everyone who makes a comment on here especially if they’re not exactly 100% behind the ViZ voice?

If you don’t like then I can’t help it. If you notice in the comments I haven’t told them to like the viz voice actor better or go anti DiC/Cloverway like I am I just write down what I think. Plus I am not swearing or insulting others. I have been on many different voice acting videos and I try to keep my comments bias as possible. I may agree or disagree with the person like with all voice comparisons.

That is true. Also, from what I read, Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of the Sailor Moon manga, had the final say with the casting of the Viz dub (as they would also be used for the dub of Sailor Moon Crystal and its movies).

For those of you about Shingo Tsukino, he is a 13 year old boy and the younger brother of Usagi Tsukino. I really enjoy Nicholas Roye's voice because it's supposed to sound teenage like. Sure it's nothing like the earlier voices, but Naoko Takeuchi was brutally honest about how Sailor Moon characters worked and the voice cast she choose were very good overall.

I really like all of the voices for shingo/sammy but my favorite one is Julie's voice for him from the 90's English dub. Nicolas's voice for him just sounded a little older in the viz dub,but I think that he did really great too. Shingo/Sammy is also my favorite supporting character of sailor moon too.

If Viz had to use a male actor to voice Shingo, Yuri Lowenthal or Sam Riegel could've worked better. Those two have done roles that sound much higher than the Viz dub of Shingo. Those roles were Yosuke and Teddie in Persona 4.

As much as I like the Viz Media English dub of Sailor Moon better than the DiC or Cloverway dubs, I'm not really a huge fan of how Nicolas Roye voiced Shingo. I think he sounds too old. However, at least he doesn't almost sound like he's trying to make the character sound like he's shouting all the time like Michael Angelis did when he was voicing Percy and James from "Thomas the Tank Engine" in the UK dubs. So yeah, I think Julie Lemieux did a much better job at voicing Sammy than Nicolas Roye did.

I think Nicolas Roye was the worst casting choice of the Viz dub. Most of the other voice actors were better than the original dub, but Shingo's voice was the one voice that wasn't right. I think they should've cast either Barbara Goodson, Mona Marshall, Erica Mendez (who plays Uranus and Reika) or Veronica Taylor (who plays Pluto) as Shingo instead of Nicolas.

Here in my opinion are who i thought were cast excellently; All 5 of the Senshi (though Ami's new voice had to grow on me first) Sailor Pluto ChibiUsa/Black Lady (I had guessed correctly Sandy Fox was gonna be involved before they announced it.) Prince Demande Esmeraude Saphir Rubeus Wiseman The Ayakashi Sisters Queen Beryl Mr. and Mrs. Tsukino Miss Haruna Four Shintenou Luna Queen Serenity Rei's Grandpa and Umino The new voice for Endymion/Tuxedo Mask is all right even though I never heard of him. I only hated hearing Nick voice Shingo in Episode 1. When I watched other episodes, he actually did better such as the Chanela one. Overall, while Yuri Lowenthal, Johnny Bosch, or Ben Diskin would do better, Nick *did* capture Shingo's mood and attitude.

The women all did a great job voicing Shingo, IMO. I'm not sure why ViZ thought hiring a guy to voice a young boy was a good idea. Nicholas Roye isn't TERRIBLE by any means - for what it's worth, he does nail Shingo's character to a T - but surely he would be better off voicing an older character? -_-

Despite me having issues with the Viz dub...I actually am fine with Nicolas Roye's portrayal. It's often forgotten that while Shingo is younger than Usagi, he is not THAT much younger than Usagi. He's only three years younger at most, and should be *starting* to go through puberty. We're just used to hearing female voice actors play characters that age that using a male voice actor is a shock. At least he has a distinctive voice.
