The amalgamation of Nigeria happened because Northern Nigeria was not profitable for the colonial master, so the Southern protectorate was merged for financial reasons in 1914. Increase in VAT from 7.5 to 10 to 12.5 to 15% by 2030. 3. The bill didn't talk about consumption as a yardstick for VAT distribution at all. The chairman is busy explaining things that he didn't put. 4. The bill will cut funding for TETFUND, NITDA, and NASENI by 2030 and replace i with a loan scheme. 5. The bill will give power to the FIRS to engage consultants to do the tax collection. If you have read the bill answer with your keyboard.

Lagos has most Headquarters of the companies hence has more VAT credited to them as per the current arrangement. That is one of the fundamental issue that the bill on Tax administration wants to address. VAT is a consumption tax and the intention of the bill is to wake up states so that they can scale up economic activities in their domain thereby generate more VAT and also recieve more.

Tinubu almost killed us with taxation in Lagos. It was land charge tax until Tinubu came with Land Use Charge. I'm waiting to hear the cries from supporters of this tax reform bill when they start paying more VAT. I currently pay ₦225.537 for 1kwh of Band A electricity tariff with a 7.5% VAT. In 2025, it will go up to 10%. In 2026 it will be 12.5% & 15% the following year.

Taxation without restructuring is extortion DERIVATION by its name means "where something is derived from", and it's typically productivity based. So, as is usual, like we turned federalism upside-down, we're turning derivation on its head and basing it on consumption. This will not give us a consumption to productivity economy. We can not get from consumption to production while operating an overcentralized system with resource ownership still vested in Govt. For this to happen, "the revenue base nust be expanded" and the only way that can be achieved is via restructuring. Restructuring is just one of the two positive ways. The other is Partitioning Tinubu is just buying time instead of restructuring. Our ignorant misleaders are lucky because majority of the populace are yet to realize that the ball is actually in their court. "We The People" create Govt and so Restructuring is our responsibility, NOT Govt's. The misleaders know this, but are willing to play along as long as the populace is in deep slumber and they're the beneficiaries of our docility.

The livestock industries is also another largely untapped industry the northern part of Nigeria is neglecting. Instead of Fulani herding cattles into farmland of indigenous people in other parts of Nigeria and killing farmers who opposed their actions. They should acquire land in the northern part of Nigeria and establish ranches seeking assistances from their state governors. The cattle can be sold to industries to process them into meat, milk and canned products. They can sell the raw material to leather industries. They can generate a lot of vat from the industries from the finished products. It is very sad that the likes of Governor Bala Mohammed, Senator Ali Ndume are misguiding their people on the tax reforms bills. If the northerners embrace this Tinubu Tax reforms bill they are one of the principal regions that is well position to generate a lot of money from vat. This is because of the vast land in the north that has remained untapped and under-funded. They do not have crude oil like the one in the Niger delta region that has been polluting lands and Rivers in the Riverine Community. They do not face Gas flaring problems that has been destroying farms in oil producing community.

My take on this is that the tax reform is excellent and its what a country like Nigeria need to move forward only if the federal government will make seaport/landport in other region start working... Lagos state generates 56% because of seaport

The North does not hate the tax bills. It is not only in the North that illegal mining is taking place. Even in so called North, alcohol is still being drunk secretly despite the Sharia in some of its parts. We should also blame the FG for not harnessing other mineral resources from all over the country like is being done to crude oil in the Niger Delta.

Please for God's sake, the governors are not against all the 4 Bills. They are particularly concerned about the Bill on VAT. Even on the VAT Bill they are talking about the gradual review of the VAT Rate and the raising of the Derivation Rate from 20% to 60%.

There is no 60% increment in VAT anywhere in the bill. The highest mentioned is 15% by 2030 and it is only on non essential commodities. 0% VAT on essential commodities such as food, education, health and others. This is an effort to ensure that the rich pay more and the poor pay less (e.g zero vat on food and more vat on luxury items). We should endeavour to conduct our own research on issues instead of listening to politicians with vested interest

Tinubu's major problem is its failure to adequately or eloquently propagate and disseminate it's policies. The opposition's voice is dominating the air waves. No matter how laudable an idea is, if not properly marketed and publicized it could easily be distorted by the opposition as is being witnessed, very sad.
