Congrats! This is a crazy accomplishment. This also serves as a reminder for why I won't ever be able to do this. I would love to be able to do a casual playthrough of fire red with a shiny Charizard, but I will never have the grit to go through this many soft resets if it comes to it. Glad there are people out there much stronger than me. Grats on the hunt!

I'm currently doing a Shiny only run on my Pokemon Black. I got shiny Tepig under odds. (4915 resets)

It's the idea that a run can go into 30k+ that would prevent me from ever starting in the first place. I'm definitely giving up after 10k and if it's reasonable that it can go above then I wouldnt "waste" the time to start, sadly.

This makes me sad a little. I think you're overcomplicating it mentally. My advice is to look at shiny hunting like the background task, do it while you're watching streams, Netflix, KZbin etc. Think of any down time you have where you could have your Gameboy, SP, DS, 3DS in your hand with a calculator to keep your tally. 99.99% of shiny hunters hunt this way. Next thing you know, you've done 1,000+ encounters and you're another step close to the shiny. There is a 63% chance for the shiny to shine before 8,192. 37% of your overall hunts, on average, will go over odds. Sometimes, the longer a hunt goes on, the more rewarding it is when it does pop. We all have our short and long hunts. We all get them. Don't overthink it, do your hunt, take a break if you need to, and it'll shine eventually. Do something simple and sweet like a HG/SS Johto Starter!

You should at least try it, i got my first shiny charmander way under odds, hunted a couple hours a day and got it on the second day, it is really rewarding getting a shiny pokemon, specially in frlg with that superb light blue frame

Sonikks... My Deoxys hunt I was doing in FireRed was 42,806 resets. Over a year of on and off hunting. I feel the pain, but it's SO satisfying when you finally get it!!

Congrats on your shinies! :D I have a small suggestion for your setup to do infinite battles that worked much better for me than simply tricking Leftovers: What I do is that I use Super fang, Thunder Wave, and then trick a Shell Bell over to the wild encounter instead of Leftovers. In this setup, the goal is to make it struggle. While I wait for it to use up all of its PP, I make sure to set the wild Pokémon's accuracy to -6 and also lower its attacking stats to at least -2 as well (I do it via Smoke Screen + Memento on my Weezing). After all of this, I just place a very physically bulky Pokémon on the field and let it take 1 HP of damage from Struggle (assuming they even hit lol), which makes the recoil damage only deal 1 HP, thus making the Shell Bell only heal 1 HP. It keeps the target's health in one place and gives you the opportunity to focus more on chucking balls rather than having to Super Fang every couple of turns. This setup obviously takes much more effort, but is in my opinion much safer, especially for tough to capture Pokémon like legendaries or mythicals. I'm sorry if this sounds very backseat gaming-y, that really is not the intention lol

Unfortunate luck this year, but think about how many roamers you've had good luck with combined with your luck with Jirachi, Manaphy, and the 3 Kanto safari zone rares. Bad luck always sucks, but if you had to have some hunts go over, I'd say you had good hunts to have the bad luck on at least! Anyways, here's hoping the "luck debt" has been paid off, and you can have some good luck for your future hunts!
