While some movies already tackled that "phobia" of being pregnant with alien organism (alien duh, especially later movies, cause I know that originally it was about making the males "r*ped and pregnant etc"), is one of few games that takes this topic again and twists this in even more different direction This whole theme of Great Ones not being able to have children, and instead " blessing" everyday people with them is such a terrfying and sad concept. While from the side of the Great One, it is an absolute tragedy that they can't have kids and they might mourn that a lot, especially since their children often either die or are killed before they even come out. For example Kos that had a baby of it's own was brutally murdered and it caused a ton of issues (maybe that whole pregacy thing is also a part of it's curse?) On the side of the human however it's an absolute horror to give birth to something that doesnt resemble a humans at all. Something that we can witness with Arianna that gives birth to small Ebrietas and doesnt handle it at all mentally. Yet another version of misunderstanding between species that Bloodborne shows in a lot of ways. Aliens that want to be mothers, and woman that are not asked to be them. I said all of this because the crawler being a creature that looks like it sprouted out of a human or maybe a pregnant woman could implicate some terryfying things. Either it's just another of many parasites attacking this world or that some Great One children will not get out of the womb the normal way and will consume the host from the inside instead which is UgHhh these things already look disgusting as hell, and this sort of implication does not help at all.

This creature made me remember the parasites of Kos. There exist a parasite in real life that usually infests snails, slowly growing inside them until they become big enough. They force the snail to reach a high elevation, where they then attract the attention of birds by making the snail’s vesicular eyes bright and girthy, more like flailing worms. Birds then look at the snails, attracted by their appearance as if they were juicy worms, eating them and then the parasite infesting the bird. There is a theory that the Schoolars that found Kos in the fishing village were infected with the parasite, making them erratic and attempt their ploy to attract the Great Ones. And maybe… maybe everything was just to make the parasite reach another Great One. Everything is just a sickly nasty cycle of a damn parasite.

Most interesting thing is that they seem to eat messengers in dream eco-system, with messengers stuck to their stomach. And as cut content heavily suggests messengers are dead human spirits, this thing preys on human souls that are lingering in hinterlands between life and death, aka, dream. It makes my head shudder uncontrollably.

The crawler seems to resemble the Schistosoma intravascular endoparasite, the flatworm which causes bilharzia in both humans and animals. Interestingly, this type of parasite is a waterborne parasite, which makes sense as to why it could be found in the Nightmare Frontier. Nonetheless Schistosoma endoparasites differs from typical platyhelminths, as they are dioecious in nature (have separate male and female sexes) and exist in copula. Moreover, the male parasite grasps the female parasite in a groove in his body known as a gynaephoric canal, similar to what is shown at 2:35 in this video where the damned souls come out. Other design elements from the parasites include: the distended female intestine with digested blood for gestating eggs, the prominent male ventral sucker, as well as the smaller and thinner female ventral sucker.

So I think I just had a big revelation, I have seen these markings in the world I didnt understand until now. Most Giant tombstones in the forbidden forest are broken but there is one near the boss with flowers and at the top you can see that weird suction mouth shape, which would mean that standing pose at the end would line up directly with a tomb. The suction at the top and the area with the skeletons coming out of the middle looks just like those tombs.

I don't believe so. While there are some visual similarities, Kos has fine fish scales, and these have worm-like skin. They also only reside in this "layer" of the Nightmare that's mostly inhabited by things associated with the ancient civilization of Loran, altho it's also possible that these things are native denizens of the Nightmare Frontier, slowly breaking everything down with their acid. Kos's emissaries are the sea-slug things all over the Fishing Hamlet, consumption of which caused the villagers to become Kin.
