I think the biggest reason for this ship being so popular is because they weren't satisfied with Prince Erik's character, who is just... mind numbingly bland.

There's something about Jim and Ariel that I just can't explain!! I just love it so much! The first vid I watched with them was All American Girl by AiraSoira (who does some really great work). It was a multi-crossover and didn't contain much canon stuff, but I just loved the way they looked together. LoveAndHeartbreak also does some really good stuff with Jim and Ariel, and it's fairly canon. (just to warn you- the vids are very very very good, but sooooo sad)

I remember when I was just getting into fandoms and I loved these kind of crossover ships. I used to stay up late watching the edited AU videos and reading the terrible 4 bit edited comics. I was like 12 or maybe 10 but I thought it was so cool for the longest time. I've matured a bit and don't really ship Disney(or dream works ect.) crossovers anymore. But it's neat to see my old ships and They'll always have a cringey spot in my heart lol

Ditto. I always thought Jim and Ariel, while similar in some aspects, wouldn't be that compatible in the end. Melody, while taking a lot from Ariel, also has Eric's traits which grounds her more (in my opinion) and makes her a better fit for Jim. Plus, and this is more in my case, I don't like to pretend Melody (and other sequel characters) don't exist because I grew up with those films so... yeah. TLDL: JiMel is awesome

The only reason why I ship this couple is because of those videos I saw by LoveandHeartbreak. They're FREAKING AWESOME and I'M SO IN LOVE WITH IT. She has deactivated her account again, but maybe she'll come back again?? I don't know. Time will tell. But if you guys ever come across Jim and Ariel (Jim/Cinderella, etc.) fanvids by LoveandHeartbreak, do check it out. Her videos are so lovely.

crossovers for me depend HEAVILY on how well the worlds work together so two fantasy worlds might be fine( supernatural's hunters meeting the mortal instruments Shadowhunters for example) but two worlds with little to nothing in common probably wouldn't. If you'd just like to explore two characters in worlds that aren't compatible I suggest taking them out of both if you can do so without change the characters too much.

One of the only crossover fandoms I've been in (aside from NBC Hannibal/BBC Sherlock) is the Great Big Four, which is Hiccup from HTTYD, Merida from Brave, Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians, and Rapunzel from Tangled. But I ended up leaving it after the fandom got a little too toxic with the ships wars. Which is kinda of shame because it was a very fun fandom when I first joined.

I'm actually pretty indifferent about crossover ships. Personally, my favorite crossovers are the ones in the same time period and similar genres, like lotr and the Elder Scrolls. I never really got why some exist though. I mean, one time I read a mega crossover between Artemis Fowl, My Little Pony, Harry Potter, Teen Titans, and Doctor Who. Some of the stuff on the internet is pretty freaky, yo.

I read somewhere on Pinterest that a guy went inside a burning building just to save his own dog and even though he was arrested for it. Eric may not be much but I think he's sweet and kind. I'm a 100% supporter of crossover ships, or just the idea of crossovers in general. It doesn't have to always be about romance but just the idea of two different cast of characters having adventures together is a dream to me (if only I had the ability to write fanfics well) But when it comes to JimxAriel... I get the appeal, at some point I lowkey shipped it too, but the magic quickly vanished for me, ironically at the same time my love for Ariel herself vanished. I still adore Jim and Ariel as separate characters, but when it comes to shipping... I prefer JimxMelody. It may some weird since I just said that I don't ship anymore JimxAriel but I can see a better connection between these two; and to be honest, my favourite ships are often the ones that work well not only in a romantic way but also as a friendship. But oh well, that's just me

I find the term cringy as an insult utterly baffling since it's someone trying to chastise someone else for something they would find embarrassing were they the ones doing it.
