I actually really liked Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon a lot, as someone who played Explorers first. I do wish they'd put more effort into the animation on the switch version though, since the limitations are clearer on a large screen. But the 3d style itself looks great static, IMO.

Actually, "Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon" was the first Mystery Dungeon game. So it was actually the Dragon Quest spin-off that spawned Shiren the Wanderer.

Shiren the Wanderer didn't really inspire anything. Mystery Dungeon WAS and always will be originally a Dragon Quest spin-off, originally. Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon is the first game in the series and came out in 1993, two years before Shiren the Wanderer. Shiren kind of took over the series and became the most popular iteration of it, though, which is still something.

It is a pretty classic MD (it was on the Vita also). They used this as the basis for Etrian MD on the 3DS (which added a Wanderer class)

Limited run games are handling the physical version but there probably won't be too many copies. They usually only do about 10k for a run like this.

I bought this for my Vita. Played 50 or 60 hours then my Vita broke. I just got it for switch and I have no qualms at all about beginning again. Frankly 50 hours felt I had only just begun anway. There is so much depth to this game for me to still discover.

@@flare8093 oof, for me on switch right now, I’m stuck in the final dungeon for “Omega Labyrinth Life.” Besides it’s questionable mechanics to most people, I like the game. Let’s just say the final dungeon is extremely cheap and unfair as the last 10 out of 30 floors the developers thought it would be funny to put Ghost enemies that faze through the maps and attack you through the tight tunnel sections of the floor, these ghosts also deal massive damage and ruin all your inventory items. (Tip: you can cheap your way out of a lot of loses in these mystery dungeon games on switch if you make sure you have a save data back up before losing. So you can load that save data back up.)

@Justin Baker it's really solid. A more gameplay intensive way to play Mystery Dungeon just with a more simple story. It really feels like one of the oldest games I've personally played that honed the definition of the modern rogue like.

Gonna be quite awhile. Atlus is still milking that persona train. On another note... I feel like there won’t be an etrian odyssey game on switch. It’s been awhile since we’ve heard any info about the team working on the series. And I’m not sure how well did the last Etrian odyssey game did on 3DS... I mean this is Atlus after all, if a game series from their catalog dips in sales then they axe off the series, just like trauma center and other Atlus IP’s no one remembers.
