A Bard's Ballad

Күн бұрын

In today's video, we continue our adventure with the Shivering Isles DLC in the Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. We speak with the Duke of Mania in the city of Bliss to see how we can win over his favour. He sends us on a crazy journey through Dunroot Burrow where we must find the Chalice of Reversal. Next, Sheogorath sends us out to the ruin of Cylarne where the Golden Sains and the Dark Seducers are in order to rekindle the Flam of Agnon. Finally, the Daedric Prince wants us to take over the bliss side or dementia side of New Sheoth by becoming the new duke or duchess of the land! Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

Replaceing Lady Syl means there wasn't just one, but two conspiracies to replace her! On the other hand, Thadon's poem is a treat.

I love Wide-Eye’s design. It actually stands out among the goofy Oblivion character design because her eyes are meant to be that wide.

Funnily enough when I played I made the exact opposite choices, so its kinda neat seeing the other side of things.

First up is the Elytra. They seem to be somewhat Eusocial, as they have a matriarchal society ruled by a queen, or "Matron". Although I remember seeing multiple Matrons in a single dungeon, but seeing as I haven't played the Shivering Isles in a while, I can't verify if that part's true or not. That being said, Drones and Soldiers are taken from real-world Eusocial insects. Drones are insects that are typically male, and their one and only true purpose is to mate with the Queen, to produce eggs. Soldiers, on the other hand, are typically female, and do exactly what their name implies. The "Nobles", on the other hand, are a bit more perplexing. They might be an elite caste of Soldiers and/or Drones, or something completely different. One thing I find interesting about the Elytra, though, is that in place of something like honey, they produce _Ichor._ Ichor has its roots in ancient Greek mythology, in which it's described as being quite literally the _blood of the gods._ This seems to imply that the Elytra themselves are divine in some form. Considering that both the Shivering Isles and its creatures were created by Sheogorath himself, this actually makes a lot of sense. That being said, "Ichor" is also (According to Google) a somewhat archaic term, which refers to a "watery discharge" from an open wound. So, maybe it's just regular green blood. As for Felldew, I can't think of any direct parallel to real-world insects or arthropods, but it _does_ vaguely remind me of that old urban legend about getting high from licking toads. Now, for Cylarne. I always like to take Cylarne for one side, and then light the Flame of Agnon for the other. I usually go with helping the Mazken defend their position, and then I light the Flame in the name of Bliss (and therefore, Mania). My logic is as follows: Cylarne is deep within Mania, and thus deep within Aureal territory. Helping the Dark Seducers conquer all of Cylarne gives them a powerful foothold in Mania. And lighting the Flame of Agnon gives the Aureal an even more powerful position in Bliss, and therefore, New Sheoth. If you allow the Mazken to take Cylarne, that gives them a region of Mania (Which, as stated above, is traditionally Aureal turf) that they directly control, whereas the Aureal gain more indirect control over New Sheoth. I think this is pretty fair; Cylarne is sort of in the middle of nowhere, after all, even if it is in Aureal turf. Whereas New Sheoth is the capital of the Shivering Isles, so even something like indirectly increased control is a pretty big deal. And in the case of the Aureal, they're already the favored servants of Sheogorath, so they're strengthening their position in the capital even more, while losing control over some of the countryside. A status quo could also work; help the Aureal take back Cylarne, and then light the Flame in the name of Crucible. This would give them all of their territory back, in exchange for giving the Mazken greater influence in the capital. Almost a 50/50 split, in a way. I just like the previous thing better, for two reasons: One, shaking things up in this way fits with the ever-changing nature of the Shivering Isles. And two: The reward for lighting the Flame in the name of Bliss (The Raiment of Arden-Sul) fits with a mage playstyle better, and is even a little bit tanky thanks to its Shield enchantment. It can also fit a stealth playstyle, as the extra Intelligence and Willpower allows one to spam spells a little more often, which is great for things like Invisibility and Detect Life; the Raiment of Intrigue, on the other hand, is really _only_ good for a Stealth playstyle. Plus, the Raiment of Arden-Sul just looks nicer, IMO. Usurping the Duke/Duchess Lastly, I usually choose to usurp Thadon to become Duke of Bliss. Partially because I was a bit bitter about sending me on a desperate drug-fueled slog through a _massive_ dungeon, and then giving me a worthless title as a "reward". I mean, at least Syl was decent enough to give you a cool bow as your badge of office; even if you're not an archer, you can still put it on display somewhere. Sometimes I usurp Syl just for a change of pace, but taking out Thadon is typically my go-to. I also think it makes more sense for a paranoid psycho like Syl to become a turncoat, as opposed to an addict with his head in the clouds. Besides, becoming Duke of Bliss fits with my approach at Cylarne. The whole "Give more of the capital to the Aureal, and more of the Countryside to the Mazken", thing. It's also worth mentioning that the _entirety_ of the Fringe reflects Dementia; it's not split in half like the rest of the Isles. I always thought that was strange, but after thinking about it now, it fits my idea of the countryside slowly becoming more in-tune with the Mazken. There's also the fact that Dementia technically has _three_ settlements, if one counts Vitharn. That being said, Vitharn is populated entirely by ghosts, and after its quest is over, it's truly abandoned and a gang of Zealots move in to set up shop. Still, depending on how old Deepwallow and Fellmoor are, this could indicate that at one point, Dementia had three settlements, whereas Mania had only two. Actually, now that I think about it, since the Fringe more closely resembles Dementia, and Passwall is _in_ the Fringe, that means Dementia can have up to *FOUR* settlements depending on how one counts Passwall and Vitharn (or if you count them at all). Which just feeds back into my original idea back at Cylarne. Edit: Fixed a typo in "Thadon".

After the Flame Of Agnon quest, you can actually reignite yourself with it by stepping in the church altar. Also, I always loved the looks of those female guards.

One of the issues I had with the Shivering Isles was that it seemed a lot of picking and choosing between Mania and Dementia, Saints and Seducers. But....if you're supposed to become Sheo.....shouldn't you just have it all? Like, kill BOTH Thadon and Syl? Force the Mazken and Aureal into submission? Light both fires? I don't know. It just seemed like a questline where the overarching story is good but the underlying logic is not.

I asked AI to complete Thadon's magnum opus for him, because he, for some reason or another, won't. Here's the result. The lady fair, our love is told. With hair as fine as soft-spun gold. Lips as red as sun-drenched dawn, skin as soft as a newborn fawn. Eyes as blue as a cerulean sea, heart as vast as the deepest glee. Voice that echoes the sparrow's song. In her embrace, I truly belong. Spirit as wild as the untamed wind. With her, my life's joyously pinned. Grace that flows like a gentle stream, she's the muse of my every dream. Steps as light as the falling snow, where she leads, I will gladly go. Laughter that rivals the morning's light. With her, every day is just right. The lady fair, a love so true, in this life and the next, I choose you.
