This is one of my favorite films and has been for the last 20 years. Love the performances from Lugosi and Karloff plus the atmosphere, lighting and the sets used. I have to agree with another post. Son Of Frankenstein, The Raven and this film are the best pairings of Lugosi & Karloff. Loving your SHOCK count downs! 💀

The Black Cat is a masterpiece! It’s one of those films you can watch over and over. I’ll definitely try to rewatch it this year for its 90th anniversary.

Karloff and Lugosi at their best. The best universal horror movie from the 30s and 40s.

My favorite K&L team up. Evil just oozes from the TV screen. Twisted & perverse so naturally I love it. At a revival screening I overheard several ladies talking about how handsome Bela was in the early scenes. Great choice!

Kind of reminds me of the Hammer film The Devil Rides Out. Especially with Dracula being the hero.

I vaguely remember seeing this movie on TV back in Houston on the Friday Night Frights. Definitely checking out a movie you think tops Bride of Frankenstein!!

@@drgangreneWhat about the 1941 film version of The Black Cat with Basil Rathbone, Alan Ladd, Hugh Herbert, Gale Sondergaard, Broderick Crawford and BELA LUGOSI?

I love this one. Another great one where Karloff gets to speak evil is Val Lewton's The Body Snatcher. Get Brad Dourif to play Karloff's role and Gary Oldman to play Lugosi's in the remake of The Black Cat.

I know Bela's part is really small in it, but my favorite team up is The Body Snatchers (1945).

It’s good but better than the Bride of Frankenstein?😮
@drgangrene3 ай бұрын
The ending works MUCH better here - it actually makes sense, as the house was built on the ruins of an abandoned military fort. In Bride it's just a lazy ending lifted from this film. Makes no sense that Frankenstein would have a detonation device to begin with, much less one that operates with the throw of a simple huge wooden lever that anyone might accidentally lean on. And honestly... this IS a better overall film than Bride, in my opinion.
