I was shocked too! I hadn't expected much from this one, thinking that you keep things pared down routinely...in a tiny space. What could you possibly cull? What a surprise to not only see you make clear, sensitive choices about what to let go or not but the size of that pile in the end. I had no idea. Hearing you think through was helpful to me, as you allowed for a gray area rather than strict black-and-white, sometimes wasteful thinking ("ruthless"). And you had room for those keeps -- critical point. In fact, I was inspired to tackle a haphazard pile in my bedroom immediately afterward; not with culling in mind but simply to pick up, put away, and clean up the space. Tossed some leggings beyond repair. Great job, thanks, April!

Great declutter! What I’ve started doing is when I try on something and I don’t like it I immediately put in donate pile. I do the same thing with an item I’ve worn that I realize I just don’t like. Before dying keep in mind that threads don’t take color! So be prepared to most likely have a contrast stitch. I dye a lot of different textiles, but stitch thread is almost always synthetic, therefore won’t take dye. I heard there’s dye for synthetics, but I’m not sure if it will work or not.

Items that you put directly on your body. Also, clothes are a reflection of your taste and personality. At the end of my declutter, I ended up with whites, greys and blacks (obviously). Great video, when I declutter my clothes I tend to go seasonally and with my try on pile I always try the items on in the morning as my body and mind is more relaxed so I can make better decisions.
@JoannaSelvan11 ай бұрын
As for dying clothes, there are 2 types of dye- one is for natural fabric and one for synthetics. If you dye light colour t-shirt, like the everlane one you mentioned, with black dye, stitching won’t dye (it is made from polyester), so hem threads will be contrasting. If you don’t want that effect you will need to use synthetic fabric dye. What is the difference? Regular dye process is a bit easier. As for darks it is very easy to refresh them with fabric dye and it makes a big difference. When using black dye you may want to invest in dye fixative to use after dying process otherwise it is very likely that your re-dyed item will bleed dye when washed or when you sweat and properly setting the dye makes a big difference.

Last time I felt the need to buy a lot of underwears. Turned out I had about 10% I would wear and the rest was just stuff I kept so I have enough. @@SpaceMakerMethodin Germany we have fabric dye you just put in the wshing mashine with the clothes you want to dye and a special powder that keeps the color permanantly in the fabric. You do a washing cycle with all that together and there is NO mess! You don't need a sink. There is no dye left in the washing machine, you can wash your clothes the next cycle without risk of staining it.

I did it several times, works fantastic. You can buy some basic colors in a drugstore at all times (e.g. black, denim, marine blue, one red and one yellow) and more variety on the internet. I love this technic. My mom dyed white bed linens into a beautiful blue and 30 years later they are still beautiful and the color didn't fade a lot.

Additionally you can wash the dyed clothes afterwards with vinegar for extra "fixation" (can't find the right word, hope you understand) and more radiant colors.

I need to come to your house and show you a folding hack so jeans don't have to be stacked. They are so much easier to get out of the closet.

I have found that stacking clothes just leads to more mess because the stacks shift and fall over when garments are removed. Using a basket and folding the items so they store like a file folder works far better and takes less time to keep organized.

you have to use a conditioning treatment or mink oil to soften leather. or wipe with alcohol until shiny, then apply vaseline. I tend towards a conditioner... but the smell from some conditioners and especially mink oil ( which is unethical so...) Is Really bad sometimes so you will need a place like your storage area to air it out for a While. I have never tried the alcohol and vaseline method. But it is probably the best for the smell factor.
