Kenura Medagedara It’s called cultural imperialism. You’re expected to speak the dominant language, namely English, even if your mother tongue is not English. But when someone, i.e., an English speaker, speaks the language that is not part of the dominant culture, people would say wow, you’re doing an excellent job. That’s why you can only see native English speakers making videos like this, bragging about how well they speak an exotic language. I personally have never seen any non native speaker making videos about how s/he “shocks” people with her/his perfect language skill. Even such people do exist, they would not gain as much fame and recognition as Xiaoma.

I'm Brunei Chinese and I speak Mandarin, Cantonese and my dialect Hakka. If you happen to meet a Chinese in Brunei they speak typically like Malaysian or Chinese too.
