Go to expressvpn.com/xiaomanyc and find out how you can get 3 months free! Okay, so my Indonesian definitely isn’t “perfect,” but I’ve spent the past couple of weeks learning Indonesian and this week I spent some time on Ome.tv, a random chat website similar to Omegle or Chatroulette where tons of Indonesians hang out. I was able to shock and impress them with my Indonesian, and also learn more about their culture. Some of them also spoke Chinese, so I was able to practice my Chinese as well, both Mandarin and Cantonese!

I've heard worse stories from France towards Americans who couldn't speak French (for some reason) However, there is definitely a majority of Americans that would get either confused or mad because they're not used to someone not speaking English Especially since this region, sometimes English is the only language predominantly spoken for hundreds of miles (For comparison, Indonesia has literally several hundreds of languages and it is insanely linguistically diverse, 2nd place in the world) so even though the US has the 5th most languages in the world, English has a much more dominating presence

@justalameusername1736
@justalameusername1736 2 жыл бұрын
When you first meet someone, for some fucking reason in any language we kinda tend to ask and talk about the same shit. How are you? Where are you from? Why are you learning X language? How old are you? What do you do? So you kinda just need to practice how to talk a bit about yourself, learn how to answer questions like that and you can spend like 1--15min max talking to someone. There'll be a point where you are going to have to guess what they're saying and often misunderstand what has been said. That's because you lack vocab and listening practice. It's not really being gifted, anyone can start doing it today, record a video and that's it. If you're a native and you're listening to it, you can nitpick 1000000 mistakes he makes per sentence. People just get impressed he can memorize this stuff within a short time. Polyglots do this all the time. I used to do it too, now I find it lame lmao I sound like a hater now fml

Bro, that's impressive! I am Indonesian and I can say that you are speaking really well! Here are some notes: There are several ways to say "I" or "me". - "Saya", used when you are talking to strangers, elderly, or to someone with higher position than you (such as your CEO, teachers, etc). We also use "saya" in formal occasions. - "Aku", used when you are talking to someone you already know well, and usually they're around your age, such as to your friends. You can also use "aku" when you are talking to your family. - "Gua/ gue/ gw (read: guwe)", the most frequently used in daily conversations. Have the same function as "aku", but you can't use this when talking to your family, because it is considered as not so respectful. In big cities like Jakarta, normally people use this when talking to their friends or colleague. There are also several ways to say "you", usually it's paired with what you use to say "I". From the most respectful to not so respectful: (I - You) Saya - Anda Aku - Kamu Gue - Lo/Loe/Lu Hope it helps! Keep up the good work!

Adding onto this, Indonesian slang tends to shorten words. Instead of “tidak”, we use “gak”. Instead of “aku” we use “ku” or even more casual alternatives listed above.

Hi, I am Indonesian born Chinese livin in Indonesia. It’s good to see more and more foreigners are interested in our language and culture. I will try to answer your question, why there r so many indonesians in ometv: - simply, we are everywhere 🤣. We are the 4th most populous country in the world. So I guess its not just ometv, but everywhere you see if you notice - there are a lot of indonesian working as foreign workers. They are called TKI. A lot of TKI are working as construction worker or maid/helpers overseas. They try to find a better life as the pay in Indonesia is relatively small. They are everywhere really. Mostly in HK, taiwan, malaysia, singapore, the middle easts. - our culture I guess. We are really friendly in general and love to have a lot of friends. If you are curious, come to Bali. :) also, this is just personal opinion: indonesian sees foreigners (white esp) as having higher social status. That is why a lot of indonesian dreams to marry or to have a relationship with white. So I guess why they are in ometv is also hoping to find foreigners? Or simply finding soulmate/pacar i guess (which is a big part of indonesian culture). I could be wrong but thats what I see. :) Come to Indonesia and learn our culture, I am sure you will be amazed!

Yep. I feel like Indonesian and Malay were the exact same language many centuries ago, same vocab, same sentences structures, etc but because we began to establish each other's country and separated ourselves it made the two languages a lil bit different. I myself wanna go to Malaysia someday since I like malay cartoons. We're just so alike. You don't even have to take so much time to speak Indonesian fluently since it's just extremely similar. I'm indonesian btw
