@@Mikael-jt1hk Do you know when Breaking first started and got popular? Its One of the elements of Hip Hop, Rapping is what a ''Rapper'' does, Hip Hop is the culture, part of that culture is ''Breaking'' and ''Rapping'' also ''DJ'' and ''Graffiti'' Its a sub culture just like any other, Its started in the 70's. just like being a bogan you need to grow a mullet and sing Jimmy Barns songs while driving around in a ute. The fact is its a world wide dance style now, I dont think it has ANY place in the Olympics, just like nobody wants to see Ballroom dancing there. But it was in the Olympics, Australia was on show and we picked the wrong person, not her fault. Its the people that put her their that need to be accountable. Her routine should have been locked in and practiced

@@phraydedjez Thanks for the breakdown of the 4 elements of hip hop. That was succinct and I don't think people know that enough about the history of breaking. I think that Raygun does have agency in her performance, because look at her previous performances that were breaking, they had none of the style that she chose to use on the day of the Olympics. "learning power moves in your 30s", imagine any otber Olympian "learning" their sport before going to the Olympics. So sick of her thinking the backlash is to the breaking community. No, the backlash is JUST TOWARDS HER and the olympic committee that allowed her to qualify.

She is happy that the Olympia judge defended her and explained that what she showed was not shocking. It is obvious that the man was just as confused by her appearance as everyone else! But what should he have said? If he had said that it was shocking to see her roll across the stage, he would have caused even more backlash, and that's what they wanted to avoid. But now I understand how she could do that for 16 years without being criticized, she just twists everything to fit her daydream of being a talented breaker.

What this looks like to me is she's trying to preserve her mental state by spinning everything into a positive which is most likely what's been recommended to her from a therapist and is probably a good way to deal with it. I get the backlash and I think it was fair mostly, that "performance" wasn't thought through, bounced off mates, etc.. before she did it which she should have done. But that's it, no more than that, she obviously knows it didn't go well so why continue to push.
@kaynemasters
@kaynemasters 2 ай бұрын
That's a good point, my feeling is you need to get some sanity after being scrutinized on such a global stage. Putting it into perspective, she did have some friends that told her she wasnt good at breaking but decided to keep trying. But at the same time, she does have a huge amount of positives coming her way. She was stoked about the attention and shes already got multiple offers from different tv channels for shows, as well as being hired by a talent manager now
@jtr549

@@kaynemasters She clearly knows it didn’t go well you can see she’s under a storm of pressure. So she has Sanity, the pressure shouldn’t be on her tho it should be on the people who approved that performance on behalf of Australia. If there was a better performance that they turned down, why? That’s what I’d want to be checked. I don’t think anyone should have anything against her tho, she was picked to do a performance that shouldn’t have been done in an Olympic format.

I think the Olympics should publish all the rulebooks so everyone can see what each competitor or team is being judged on. She was much better in her qualifying videos and I wish people could remove their veils of hate and see that. She's not great athletically by any means and if you look at all of hers and Sammy Free's videos, nobody is poking fun of them. They are seen as very serious competitors. They did the best they can with what skills they've got.

I hear you Clare. Where I see the discrepancy is how this one performance is different from the rest. I broke this down in my latest video on the topic. @@kaynemasters I'm not a big fan of any sport where places are decided by judging because that is subjective to varying degrees by definition. Anything where style gets points I don't really like. With some sports like diving it's more obvious and tangible. Rhythmic gymnastics the skill is more prominent over style and the slightest skill error will damn an entire routine. Also, the routines are graded for difficulty prior to performance, so there the emphasis on skill is prominent before the athlete begins. With dancing anything goes. Sure there is skill and I can't dance and have no interest in any dancing so all power to those who can. Skill is not central though. If they want skill to be central then athletes should have their routine graded ahead of time. Which of course would be contradictory to the entire breakdancing setup.

I fast forwarded past all his parts to catch up on her interview! She was terrible, and shouldn't have been at the olympics in any capacity. but if you're going to provide fair analysis, you can't just basically talk about what you think she was thinking [in the most cynical way possible] and claim to know exactly what she was thinking. this video is more a window into your negative world view than it is viable authority over what she might be thinking.

Thanks for your feedback. If you watched the video, I did detail that I had another video which broke down the entire story, her motivation's and dispelling the rumors' from the truth. The video is comprehensive and researched on this topic. If you watch it, then this video would make more sense to you. You can see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/omKTYWSdmsiqnK8 This video is a further response, detailing more insight into the unanswered questions because she's now given her first video response.

The only thing funnier than Raygun's performance is every self-righteous sook having a cry about it online. Blame the selectors for letting her compete if you really feel the need to shake your fists at clouds. Richard Branson has better taste than anybody in the comments here.

"all those things are completely disproven." Lmfao no. Several judges who voted for her were her alumni. She was very careful to say "none of them have ever judged her before" to avoid saying "at least two of them have been my friends for several years.* At least do the bare minimum research.... This video is less informed than some that came out weeks ago....
