The Shoei RF-1400 is a new motorcycle helmet released by Shoei this year. After owning the RF-SR and RF-1200 I decided to buy the RF-1400 to review on this channel and test long term. This is not sponsored content, I just love the Shoei brand and these are the best motorcycle helmets in my honest opinion. I strongly prefer to ride with Snell approved helmets and Shoei meets that criteria.

100% agree. Love this helmet. Peripheral view is phenomenal. The snugness will reduce by at least 10% over time. At this price point it is the best in class. I have an Arai which aim also love but paid a bit more. I have no problem with paying premium money for superior protective gear with proven track record and history. Y

The 1400 seems like a great helmet. We have several Shoei and Arai helmets, I think they’re certainly worth the money. When questioned, I always ask, “How much is your head worth?” Lol.... buy what you can afford and wear it. Thanks for the great review! You do excellent, honest reviews, sharing this one with several other riders! Ride safe.

Thanks for the review ! I'm currently looking at the 1400 vs. 1200 left-over vs. rf-sr. I do have wind buffeting on my Softail Deluxe and my current (older) HJC lid. I suspect all that extra material at the bottom of the 1400 (which makes it harder to put on and off) is helping with that regard. Thanks again!!! Keep up the great vids!! -PH

I picked up a RF-1400 yesterday. I already have about 5 hours in the saddle. I'm happy with it. Coming off a Bell Qualifier MIPS. The Bell did have a slightly wider view. But I do consider the Shoei an upgrade for sure. I ordered a Cardo Black today, I'm curious about the 45mm drivers. We shall see. Shoei can't come out with the new face shields fast enough. I'm ready for the dark smoke or transitions shield.

The Shoei is incredibly comfortable. I love it. My Dark shield has been on backorder from Revzilla for weeks. Kind of annoying. I still don't see the transitions available anywhere

@@GearsGadgets I contacted Shoei, this will be the 2nd run on Shields, the first run sold out in an hour they said. I preordered from Cyclegear so I'm in the same boat. I'll likely pick up a transitions when readily available.

Can the “Ryde Wear” quick release chin strap buckle be installed on the RF-1400? You can test for this by inserting a pencil in the strap at the D ring connection.

With current pricing the 1200 can be had for about $100 less than the 1400. Is the 1400 that much better - quieter, ventilation, vision, comfort?

The buffetting change may just be that u mounted the cameras slightly different. I dont think you could accurately test a helmet with a camera mounted Best thing u can do on a heritage is add fork deflectors for buffeting. They’re not the prettiest but are effective

@ecrusch

That looks like a nice helmet. A good field of view. But 500 bucks seems like a lot. Just wondering if that locking mechanism will prohibit help from opening the visor to get to your facial area to help you in the event of a crash without having to pull the helmet off and possibly exasperating the problem.
@roadglide
@roadglide 3 жыл бұрын
If you have a $10 head buy a $10 helmet. The underside of the helmet has pull-out padding identified with red trim. Emergency First Responders knows what this is for. No exasperating but expediting.
@GearsGadgets
@GearsGadgets 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah its not cheap but Snell2020 rating and the easily removable safety cheek pads as Road Glide mentioned makes the $500 a cheap insurance policy for whatever is left of my brain. Honestly I would have never thought $500 was a good price for a helmet until putting one on my head and having not only the peace of mind, but a genuinely comfortable helmet too.

Dude, are you sure you aren’t an XL? I wear a 7-3/4” hat, so my head is slightly larger than yours. My head circumference measures 62 cm which according to Shoei puts me in an XL, not a XXL. I wear an XL in my older Shoei and Arai helmets… just asking as I'm thinking of picking one of these up also. Thanks for the great review!

I've got a couple questions for anyone who's able to answer. 1. I've heard that Shoei's going to release some kind of proprietary comm system for the RF-1400. Does anyone have anymore details on that? Will it be a full setup or just a mount/adapter to help with setting up a third party system? 2. I'm interested in getting a camera setup for riding, mainly just for insurance purposes/just in case, not so much for vlogging. Mounting to the helmet seems like it would probably give you the best ability to capture the important stuff, but I'm not so sure if I want a comms system and a camera stuck on my helmet. I was considering mounting something forward-facing on my actual bike, or maybe wearing some kind of chest rig. Do you think I'd be able to see what I need to see with either of these options?
@GearsGadgets
@GearsGadgets 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure about any comms system by Shoei. As far as running a camera for insurance purposes I would just run an Innovv kind of camera if you aren’t interested in motovlogging.

When adding the Cardo com unit, do you notice any difference in fit or pressure between the com side and non com side it the helmet? I’m most likely going out to get the RF1400 from cycle gear today and just so happens my Cardo packtalk Bold is due to come in the mail today as well. I was figuring I would have to go the adhesive route, but it looks like I have the clip option as well. I have to admit, I cringed a little when I saw you shove that clip into the side of a brand new Shoei helmet....

I am currently considering Shoei rf rs vs GT air 2 and rf 1400. How will you grade rfrs if I was concerns about quietness and air flow vs other models Shoei. I would like this helmet for vlogging and wonder if that would work or if you have any videos in rfrs. Please share in free moment if you can as I would greatly appreciate your advice for setup with recording audio and video.

@GearsGadgets
@GearsGadgets 2 жыл бұрын
I mean that's a tough call, more personal preference than anything I guess. Neither helmet is a bad choice. Helmets aren't the kind of thing you will be looking to eBay when your done with it so resale value isn't really a component of assessing which one to go with so the price (if you didn't pay for the premium) isn't really a component of the decision making in my opinion.
