A very good question. Declining the Bishop trade by P5e for example is not a very good move. It's too passive. After P5e, white can play S4c for example, and after black attacks the 2nd file with P2d Px2d Sx2d, then black can move his Bishop to 4d! So it's fine. Now black Silver can do anything, and white also has an option of blocking blacks Rook by P*2f. He can also try P5d trying to exchange the Bishop there aiming at B*5e fork.

hi Hidechi-san, can you make a video lesson for all about the 'Lance' . just like the pawn tactics u had make before, i hope to know more about the "lance" tactics, do or not to do, roles of captured and uncaptured lance in game, and how to use it effectively. Sometime i think that lance is the most lonely chesspiece on the chessboard, game can end without move all of them. ^_^ thanks

All right. I'll do it some day. I think a Lance can play two kinds of roles. One is being a key piece in edge attack, the other is to be dropped after being captured from opponent's camp. (often by a Bishop)

I have a question about the position at 3:27, after the move 40. P2g; What if sente doenst take it, and instead plays Sx3c? I fail to see how gote is clearly better, ("trapped") after that. Also the same line could be examined with 39. Nx3g, where I once again fail to see how gote is better after either Sx3g, or even more interesting Rx2g, P4f, Sx3c Does anyone know the refutations for these deviations? I appreciate your help in advance.

00:30 We exchange Bishops. But what if Sente Player istead of this blocks Bishop diagonal (P5e or something like that) and goes for P2d?
