Remember playing this at a friends house at the age of 7 or so, we couldn't speak any English so we relay didn't understand how to play the game but we did mass assassins like a mad man and sent them a way just to view the cutscenes^^ good times :D

The newer one is much more involved and requires much more thought to win the campaign. Not to mention the original Shogun is getting very hard to find and has compatibility issues with Windows 7 and 8. It works, just has a few graphical glitches and whatnot. I would say get Shogun 2 and Fall of the Samurai, and if you like it enough get the other DLC later on, though the blood pack in particular is awesome. Make sure your computer can handle it first though with the demo.

@Pegasi Not a hatchet, but a kusarigama (specifically, the -gama, or rather kama, part). He used it wrong, though. You throw the weighted end to tangle up your opponent, then you kill them by swinging the kama.

ninja and geisha can always assassinate other geisha. Ninja's have a low chance of success, while geisha can always kill another geisha but dies in the process. Ninja can only be assassinated if you turn on the reveal map code, and the scenes for assassinated ninja are the same as the scenes for killing enemy emissaries. same go for shinobi (spies in this game) The special scenes of geisha killing ninja are from failed ninja assassination attempts

In the battlefields, they should make the Samurai soldiers look more animated like in the medieval 2 total war, with different uniforms, facial differences, and different killing methods. All i see are soldiers swinging their weapons up and down, straight, and sideways.

Why couldn't they have reused the same concepts (not the same videos though) in Shogun 2? Granted those new ones are great but blowpipe, just to name one example, is sorely missing from the repertoire of the ninja's assassination methods.

The "ninja assassination failure" version of that video more or less shows that; the Daiymo wakes up and tugs on the string, causing the ninja to fall and break his neck as he lands head-first next to his bed.

The second one acctually happened in history,... somewhat. The ninja did use the technique shown, but the shogun wike up and the ninja was caught and killed. I dont remember if it was ieyasu or hideyoshi that was to be the victim. hmm...

Ninjas are a better way to eliminate your enemy. But when I play Shogun, I rather fight head on with the enemy in an all-out-war and nothing greater than the feeling of last-man-standing. Takeda forever !!!

@BFCrusader Personally I miss the throwing blade double decapitation and the failure where the target pulls the string the ninja is using to poison him most of all. The new videos are cool, but they lack the epic silliness that some of these videos had.... Not to mention blood.

Ninjas do not escape, they always die which is why they are a major pain in the ass to train, but it makes them a bit more balanced and less game ruining. Geishas never fail, they just dont find an oppurtunity which makes them very broken, i think they should not return if they remake STW.

its a he and not a she. also, i think your mixing up 2 different clips. The first one with the sword is killing a general in a castle. The one with the rope and the poison is killing a shogun in a castle.
