I don’t think most people realize how important Shohei Ohtani is to the Dodgers. People who says that Shohei Ohtani is not needed for the Dodgers to win the World Series against the Yankees has very little if any idea at all of what Ohtani brings to the game of baseball. First, there is the financial and ratings aspect but that’s a whole different topic by itself. Shohei Ohtani has a big psychological factor when he’s in the game. He not only uplifts, boost his team’s morale, and provides confidence for them but he also instill fear into his opponent as well. In game 3 of the World Series, even with a shoulder injury and all, the starting pitcher of the Yankees still threw 4 straight balls at Ohtani in the very first at bat of the first inning that led to a score. The Yankees has a game plan just to contain Ohtani. Even if he goes 0 for 42 in a seven game series Ohtani is still mighty important. No team will walk a player to let Ohtani bat as we had seen numerous times with Aaron Judge. This is the player that we have seen on numerous occasions during the regular season that was walked on numerous occasions to let Mookie Betts bat instead. Game 1 in both the Padres series and this World Series with the Yankees is basically a win or go home game. Without Ohtani’s 3 run homer in game 1 against the Padres, the Dodgers would most likely be swept 3-0 by the Padres and there would be no game 4 and game 5 for the Dodgers pitchers (especially it’s bullpen) to shine and see Freeman hit his historic grand slam. With the latter against the Yankees, Ohtani was the catalyst and the driving force in winning game 1 when he hit that triple against the wall to allow Freeman to have a chance to hit his historic grand slam. Otherwise, the Dodgers would most likely lose game 1 to the Yankees and this World Series would be a very different World Series with the Yankees coming into L.A. being up 3-2 or they might have won it all in New York.

Ohtani was amazing in an unprecedented way during the regular season, and still had some huge moments during the postseason even if the overall numbers weren't standout. Indeed, the Dodgers might have lost the NLDS without his 3-run homer in game 1. And then he inspired the whole team by playing through injury in the World Series and making the Yankees adjust their pitching based on his continued power-threat at the plate. He's already a legend, and this postseason run just adds to that. Go Shohei, Go Dodgers!

Although he was injured in the WS, it is no exaggeration to say that Dodgers' victory would not have been possible without Ohtani. ① Legendary series, first ever 54/59, first DH WAR 9.1 and MVP. It is no exaggeration to say that the division championship and highest winning percentage (home advantage acquisition) were all thanks to him. ② First game of the DS, a three-run home run that saved the team. After giving up three runs in the first inning, the team and fans were depressed, thinking "Ah, we're going to lose again this year," but he saved them with just one hit. This is exactly where the Dodgers PS began. ③ NLCS, against Mets. He recorded a new team record of 17 on base in the NLCS. He made his presence felt even without swinging the bat, and earned many walks. He also hit a three-run home run and a leadoff home run, and was an undeniable performance. ④ WS, against Yankees. Freeman's grand slam in the first game was impressive, but without Ohtani's double in the bottom of the eighth inning (a great base run in which he stole third base after an error by the other team), that home run by Freeman may not have happened. His double in the eighth inning saved the team. After that, he injured his shoulder in the second game, but he was so intimidating to the opposing pitcher that he was able to get on base even with a walk or a hit by pitch. And throughout all the games, he was constantly moving the opposing bullpen, which was one of his less visible but great contributions.

So what if Ohtani didn’t shine in the World Series? In the regular season, when Betts was injured and Freeman was out, who was it that carried the Dodgers? Ohtani’s WP and cWP were both the highest in MLB, ahead of Judge, proving just how much he held the team together. When the Dodgers were down 0-3 in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Padres, Ohtani hit a game-tying three-run homer, showing not only other teams but his own teammates that “this year’s Dodgers are different.” From that point on, Betts and Freeman, who had struggled in past postseasons, started hitting too. Ohtani also set an unusual record of consistently hitting only when teammates were on base, coming through for the team in the NLDS and NLCS. Then, when he partially dislocated his shoulder in Game 2 of the World Series, the Dodgers dugout-and all of Dodger Stadium-fell silent, showing just how crucial he was to the team. While he had to delay his trip to New York for further examination, he kept morale up, messaging his teammates, “Remember, we still won when Bellinger dislocated his shoulder.” He then forced himself back into the series, playing through the pain with injections. Did he really do “nothing”? Even if he couldn’t swing fully, he drew walks, trying to get on base, and the Yankees burned through bullpen pitchers just trying to keep him off. There’s no question that Freeman deserved the WS MVP, but he only finished what Ohtani had set up. The Dodgers honored Ohtani’s sacrifice. Judging him by WS stats alone misses the full season’s story-something every Dodgers fan understands.

In the World Series had a triple scored the tying run that led to Freemans HR. In game 2 he got injured but still willing to play, a heart of a Lion. I am puzzled by those who says that Shohei Ohtani didn’t contribute much if anything at all to the Dodgers winning the World Series. Do they even follow the postseason...like actually watching it? Shohei Ohtani is the single biggest reason why the Dodgers are even playing in the World Series, let alone winning it. If anything, Shohei Ohtani is not given nearly enough credit for helping the Dodgers to win the World Series.

The first postseason HR was the key for Dodgers road to the championship, his HR ignited the Team and the fans, it gave us that spark of belief not everybody in Dodgers uniform had a great WS but his presence alone just like Kershaw’s, Glasnow’s and all the injured players who couldn’t play was important throughout the postseason, he will shine even brighter cause he’ll be pitching and batting next postseason 🔥🥷🏽 haters keep hating is ok, but nobody will take away the fact that in his first postseason appearance he became a CHAMPION 🏆 Ohtani is the 🦄 🐐
