I had a partially torn labrum that seemed to take forever to heal.I was coaching football and a few of the kids asked how far i could throw the football.I told one of the kids to run a streak.I was like late 40s.Once he hit 30-35 yards i let i go with some zip on it.Soon as the ball left my hand i heard a pop and immediate pain from top of my shoulder to elbow.No surgery was needed but i had to sling my shoulder for while and get pain killer shots.Took about a yr to stop hurting

I was not that good a baseball player but I was fast and a good baserunner, and slid a lot, feet first. I never put my hand down on the ground. No reason to. And since we didn't wear gloves on the basepath, you'd scrape the skin off your bottom hand. That's why he jammed the shoulder, I don't know if he always slides like that.

Yeah, it's the WS...but trying to steal second, in the 7th inning, with a three run lead? Another reason why the stolen base has been de-emphasized. Aside from giving your opponent easy outs, they can cause unnecessary injuries. A classic high risk/little reward scenario. I'm not totally familiar with the way Ohtani plays the game, maybe it's his preference/style, but a headfirst slide into 2nd base is the only way to go if you attempt that particlur steal. Sliding feet-first, with your body upright like that, is almost always a guaranteed out - especially if the catcher's throw is on the mark like that lol. You're doing your opponent a favor by presenting yourself as a bigger target, and instead of the defender having to catch the ball and crouch down to try to apply the tag, he only has to make the catch and simply turn. And you're out, MEAT!!! A textbook example on how to throw a runner out at second. And possibly a textbook example of everything a baserunner should NOT do when trying to steal second base ha ha. A bone head move. Maybe he was trying to show off. Getting thrown out was embarrassing enough, but injuring yourself and getting knocked out of the game on top of it. Damn. Talk about wanting to crawl under second base and hide lol. In a reckless effort to take one base, he could have cost his team a win. Maybe it will cost them the Series? At least it wasn't his throwing arm, right??
