Tanaka is too experienced and instead of challenging Ohtani head on, he plays his mind games first throwing many different pitches before his fastballs to strike Ohtani out. Tanaka outplayed Ohtani here, plain and simple. Ohtani got schooled. Respects to both Japanese stars though. Japanese players are tough and extremely competitive.

Psandoval85 ohtani is a phenom but he's not perfect. No one is. He's just a particularly great player to watch because what he's doing hasn't been done in an extremely long time. YankeesFan99 (Sorry for poor English) Yeah Andújar should have won ROY. Because Ohtani missed almost 25% of the season. Andújar had 595AB. Ohtani had 326AB. Andujar got robbed. But it doesn’t mean Andújar >>> Ohtani. Ohtani blew Andújar away in SLG OBP OPS basically killing Andújar in every stat except AVG which Andújar only leads by .013. Of course Andújar beats Ohtani in HR RBI R because Ohtani had half the at bats. And Ohtani pitched 10game with 3.31ERA(4-2). 101mph fastball and the most nastiest splitter in the league. Also he runs as fast as Altuve and Lindor. Clearly Ohtani >>> Andújar.

100% Agree! Why spend all that money to buy good seats, in an expensive city like New York, if you're just going to be on your phone. At least the people at 0:10 weren't taking 自撮り写真 ("selfies")... like these people ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJjXYn2BaKmshbc ) However, in their defense, this was only the second time Ohtani and Tanaka faced each other. But, Ohtani pitched the last time the Angels played against Tanaka and the Yankees in April. This was the first time Ohtani and Tanaka faced each other as batter vs. pitcher, since Japan. So, I could understand if they were a little excited and wanted to capture the moment with their phones.
Ohtani won the first AB...Tanaka was given a strike even though it was a ball.

Gary Sanchez isn’t a bad catcher per se. When he does good, nobody notices. When he makes a mistake, every paints this guy as a terrible catcher. He calls a great game, frames pitches better than most people and has the best arm in the league. His only issue is hustle. You should really pay attention to how good of a catcher he is when he comes back.

The T-10, Yep, Tanaka is one of those "drama" players. Whether it's hitting or pitching, he's one of those players that has those inspiring amazing performances and then god awful moments. Just like Judge was a strikeout king for the league and then BOOM, he's back as the hitting monster as advertised. These players gives fans heart attacks, stress, angst, and jubilation. If Ohtani keeps up his solid numbers in both capacities throughout his career, he will go down as a recent legend and first ballot hall of famer.
Tanaka already won before this battle started. Tanaka wanted the ball on the biggest stage an wanted the pressure and thrived under it. Ohtani wanted no part of it and just said send me to a small market club where were expected to lose and if we win they'll say hey look what happened. Basically no Yanks, Dodgers, and no Boston.
