At least she is trying from overseas & spreading Lalon songs around the Globe, who else doing it? As a British brought up, she doing great & getting better. India & Pakistan representing Bullah Shah's songs all over the world. But I reckon Lalon Shah's Philosophy was more intense for mankind. So let's spread his words folks.

"This is my rendition of Shomoy Gele" this alone should clear all the problems. It's Shapla's version of the song, just the way we normal people sing average pop songs in our own custom composition. And her one is absolutely breathtaking. So anyone grumpy enough to complain can rather go and eat all the Muri (puffed rice) they want.

I liked this composition... Many Bengali singers within the boundary singing Bangla songs with distorted pronunciation and Shapla being an expatriate pronouncing the words almost correct. Its not her fault but limitation. Respect the platform and the composer. Hats off!

Subjectively speaking, I do not dispute the grounds for some of preceding adverse viewer comments for the mutilation by the young singer in pronunciation and/or incorrect word used for the Lalon lyrics. But objectively speaking, I feel performers like Shapla Salique deserve to be treated with respect, patience and encouragement. One needs to face the fact that the trends in Bangladesh post-liberation cultural developments for all the words of complacency we are used to and behind the cloak of the yearly rituals like Pahela Baishakh or Ekushey February -- and despite the sacrifices of our past generations particularly in the pre-liberation days of trials and resistances -- leave much to be desired in a ‘puritan’ sense. The younger generation by and large seems totally overrun by the Western or Bollywood culture at home and abroad. The streets and avenues of Dhaka are filled over ninety percent by sign boards and commercial displays in English rather than in Bangla in a proportion (English vs. the local language) not seen in any other comparable city. Bangladesh homes that send their children abroad for education or career are far from the institutions with the cultural or moorings or sense of identity that would keep their wards abroad ‘puritan’. So, I will be on the side of Shapla Silique generation for the simple reason that notwithstanding above they are making ‘their bids’ to bring the legends Lalon to the fore in international forums rather than giving way totally to the Western or Bollywood tunes.

For fuck sake! Some people are just too ignorant and uneducated to understand creativity, to recognize a good thing when you see it, when you hear it. I don't see any other Bengali artist doing what this singer is doing. She is unique and representing Bengali music worldwide. This is called fusion, which some of you here would not understand. Shame on you, all you can do is be negative. She is very talented - We should be proud of her.

I can't just take it. We should show some respects to these traditional songs. What's the meaning of this tone at 1:50? Her voice is excellent, but there was no need of these additional tones. Even she misspelled some pronunciations. Few people praised her for this song. I think they don't have enough idea about baul song. Sing & hear pop, rock, bla, bla.. but don't insult our traditional songs, please. We are happy with the old & real tones, no need to change them.
@msishojib
@msishojib 7 жыл бұрын
No one force you to take it. These songs are our big traditional asset we cherish these in our heart and soul, no one can insult that. The thing i,s this particular performance is not up to the mark that we cherish in our heart. They tried to make it with their own ability and instruments and they improvised a little bit to make them audible for the audience present in front of them. And I think they did good, very good. Do you know, the songs of Baul Lalon Shah are still singing in Bangladesh and Kolkata (India) in different tune (search for any Lalon Song sung by Farida Parvin and Purnodas Baul, you see the different). Are any one of them insulting the song? Obviously not, the reason is the technology of recording songs are available for what, 50-60 years now. Before that the songs are learned and spread from singer to singer, so with time and distance the tune got changed, so the tune is not a very serious matter, the lyrics and its philosophy matters the most. As long as they got the lyrics right this is ok.
@MDMasum-te3yp
@MDMasum-te3yp 7 жыл бұрын
Then Baul songs are not for you. Go for hard instrumental songs. Instrumental technology didn't improve to change tone.

She is amazing.. hands down. But to be honest, I also understand the annoyance of people over the "pa..rra..pee..pee..or whatever" it just doesn't go with the tone and nature of the song. I guess it might appeal to people who don't speak Bengali nor understand it, but the ones who do will find it annoying. I mean, what is that meaningless sound doing in the middle of a heavy philosophical Lalon song? Aside from that, I don't mind her accent (which some people do). We must not forget that these baul songs are written and sang by and for rural people. Therefore, we should learn to appreciate it too.
