Shooting: HK USP Compact - a superb chunky concealed 9mm

Putting a few rounds through my H&K USP Compact in 9mm. It's not the smallest "compact" every devised, but the size helps it shoot extremely well and accurately. I'll be putting a match trigger in it soon to really maximize the gun's potential.

I've owned a full size USP for nearly 20 years now and it is still my favorite pistol. I've put more than 100,000 rounds through it and it still shoots like a champ with all original parts. It is the most reliable pistol that I own and extremely accurate. It was around $600 when I bought it and worth every penny.

@False I remember going down to the gun store and buying cases of 9mm for $60. A case of .223 wasnt much more. And there was ammo EVERYWHERE. The good old days. You used to be able to burn through a case every weekend without thinking twice. I kind of feel bad for the generation getting into guns now. Especially with the democrats in control of everything. If they can't ban it they'll tax the crap out of it.

I have a USP .45 and it is totally reliable. Have never seen anything fail or malfunction. If I had to get a 9mm, I'd buy another USP but my Glock can easily accept a 9mm conversion kit. Both of these are very durable and reliable. I don't think I'll ever buy another handgun. I have the two best in the world.

No, its because I have done those things that I know it is not smart to look down a barrel with any rounds that could possibly be loaded. This video set a bad precedent for inexperienced shooters as far as gun safety/handling concern.

+Jared Schindler He didn't actually look down the barrel. If you look closely it is always pointed off to the left. Besides, guns don't rack their own slides and shoot themselves- his fingers were away from the trigger, and the pistol had no round in the chamber and wasn't even cocked.

Some people say the USP is the best 9mm pistol around. I'd love to have the oportunity to shoot one someday, sadly 9mm is not allowed for civilians on Brazil, so I probably won't see one of those here anytime soon.

A while back I got one of these from Classic Firearms. I guess some police agency backed out of a contract but whatever it was they were selling brand new USP9c's for $550 so I had to grab one to try out. It was an LEM but it also had an ambi safety. It was a nice gun and I didn't dislike it but for me it was just meh. Nothing about it did anything for me besides saying H&K on it so after a lot of back-and-forth I eventually traded it in on a Beretta 92A1. I've fondled a couple fullsize USP's and I would very much like to get a couple of those at some point. Kinda regretting not getting the used .40 fullsize I found for $400 a while back.

I don't recommend doing it but it is safe, this is not a saturday night special. the hammer can't fall and hit the firing pin because of a metal guard and even if the guard failed, there is a firing pin lock that is also engaged unless the trigger is pulled. Very safe as long as your finger is off the trigger. and on top of all that, the manual safety on the trigger was also engaged.

I may be the only one who discovered this, but the USP Compact (not the full size) made a brief appearance in the opening fight scene of Casino Royale but not in the hands of Bond. It was the bad guy. If you look closely at the 2:01 minute of this video, you see the gun on the bathroom floor right before the goon picks it up. The features (white mark on the frame, curved bottom of the trigger guard, notches and markings at the bottom of the magazine) are unmistakable. I have a USP in 9 and a USP compact in .40 S&W that I enjoy quite a lot. I thought about ordering a match trigger for the full size model but I read on a couple of forums that it is not worth it unless you have it professionally installed. I'm still deciding on getting one.

HK will install them for not *too* much money, around $60+shipping I believe. Also, there are good guides on doing it at home, though it does appear to be a bit of a headache. Edit: I installed the kit and it was kind of a pain, but not too bad. Totally worth it.

Did you order the full size usp match trigger and install just keeping the same trigger? Did it drop pull weight or just make it smoother? If it just took out some of the take up, it would be worth it. Thanks

DiBiase It drops the pull weight about .5 to 1 pound, and makes it smoother. I also put in a 10lbs mainspring which lightened it further, with no side effects to reliability that I've found. Take-up is about the same distance-wise, but it is smoother, lighter, and overall more pleasant, with a crisper break and shorter reset. It's a *very* worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.

***** I realize that, it's just that this is the ideal platform for a .40 compact imho. Soaks up the recoil so perfectly. In 9mm, seems a little outmoded to me, being so bulky. I prefer the P30 in 9, and the USPc in .40.
