It's the time of year where I love planting perennials so that I will have beautiful blooms in early spring. I decided to go shopping for perennials and do a garden nursery tour at North Haven Gardens & Covingtons.

Beautiful plants. I love when your videos are longer. You give so much information and pay attention to detail. I am a very new gardener in zone 9a and I learn so much from you. Not very many gardeners close to me are in my zone. Thanks for sharing

@@shesamadgardener Lol! I love laying on the sofa with my Sprite Zero and my pJs. I have a question, if you don’t mind me asking. I purchased 6 hydrangeas from a nursery called endless summer. Three were “the original hydrangea” and the others were bloom struck. The nursery had pruned them back, almost to the base and bc I’m very new at this I asked specifically if they were alive, and she said yes. Well here we are 4 months later and they are still looking the same. I did the scratch test and the stems are brown through and through. I guess I’m asking are the alive or dead? Are these plants supposed to be brown inside as well? Help! I have searched and cannot find anything. Thanks

Ascot rainbow euphorbia is a fantastic drought tolerant plant that can take the heat! We had major drought and high temps this summer and it grew (unlike my other plants). The spring blooms are really showy and last a long time too! It’s an evergreen for me in 8b (oregon).

That “Erica” Heather ground cover is a winter blooming (light pink/white) ground cover. I have ~15 of them. They are green now, but in about 4-months they will be blooming. In the spring/summer, they go back to green. Then my summer blooming Heather is pink/purple...huge amount of those because my property can handle it.

Oh jeez - The Pieris aka - Japanese Andromeda...Yes, my friend in Zone 8a it does very well in part shade..HOWEVER...when the weather is dry and hot = thrips + lacewing damage occurs 100% of the time. THEN you spend the next year tackling the issue with neem oil. It’s year THREE for me and they are FINALLY under control. And the leaf damage those bugs cause never gets repaired so you look at the yellowing/brown leaves until they fall off. And you have to “cloud prune” them 3x per year...

Hey Girl: “Whitman Farms” in Oregon has great Japanese maples according to KZbin’s Steph @Hooked and Rooted here in Zone 6b - she deals with a lady named Lucielle. Steph has researched and planted a Japanese maple garden so she’s got a few of them.

I have asters I bought from a Heard Museum plant sale several years ago. They have spread so much that they could take over a flowerbed. I have to constantly cut them back to keep them from suffocating the rest of my plants. They’ve just started blooming for me and will keep there flowers until the first frost. I’m moving mine because they just overtake a regular flowerbed. They’re gorgeous though. You should check out Crystal with BagODayCrochet. She has a BODLife KZbin channel that she has done a lot of tree planting. She’s a former landscaper that is working on her new properties landscaping. Her and her husband are making a Japanese garden and are obsessed with Japanese Maple trees. She ordered many from a company and has been quite happy with the trees she received as they have many varieties she hasn’t been able to find in any nursery.
