Yes I’m here in 2024. This and The Money Pit are truly underrated movies that both came out in the same year. This song is great and so is the song The Heart Is So Willing by Stephen Bishop which was the theme song to The Money Pit and that song never got proper release either.

This is one of those movies I saw with my older brother as we usually went for the strange ones. It was a time when I was still in high school and I would drive 40 miles on a Friday night to go to a movie with him. I remember this one, "2010", and "Xanadu" as one of those movies. This particular movie we stayed for the whole credits because they had some interesting end credit sequences. Some of it was discarded footage from this movie. But it also included some footage used in the second movie such as the scene from the junkyard at the end. I'll avoid a spoiler in case you haven't seen it. My brother graduated college and moved away. For a while, I visited him and saw movies in his new town. Then he had kids and now grandkids so it probably won't happen again.

You answered your own question there. They used to be so awesome because when they wanted to make a cool effect, they had to make a cool effect for real. They wanted a robot, they had to build a robot. There was no junk thinking like "hell, this didn't work out, we'll fix it at post-production". If something didn't go as planned, it had to be redone. And again, and again, until it's ok. It also made the movies far more realistic since they wouldn't do stuff that just wouldn't be possible in the real world. Take Knight Rider, for instance. One of the reasons the original was awesome is that all stunts were real. If the car jumped, you knew it was really up in the air (sometimes you could even see the jumping ramp where you shouldn't). The 2008 stuff? It lasted 2 seasons because it became pretty much ridiculous - they exploited CGI way too much (and used rather cheap and poorly done CGI at that). Simply put, to make a good movie then, it took a lot more care than today.

What a soft rewarding song to end the movie And it matches the orchestral piece from the beginning

There was a soundtrack because I had it on cassette 😆 I loved this movie when I was a kid and I showed it to my 5 year old son over holiday. This little movie had it all: comedy, romance, action...still love to see Johnny Five save the day and make a fool out of Corp clowns 😂

When the movie came out, it was El Debarge’s “Who Is Johnny” and that video. Being in 7th grade, everyone either sang or mimicked it. I didn’t see the movie till two years later on TV to hype up II. I first remember this song at one of those year in review specials with clips and stills. One of the stills showed a portrait of the Challenger astronauts.
