People do notice height. By you they don't notice it consciously (they don't go around judging people's height in their mind). But they do it subciously. Even something as small as someone approaching you in the street. Someone who is 6'0 will have a heavier presence that forces you to take note of them more than someone who is 5'7, even though the difference between 5'7 and 6'0 is not dramatic. Even in competitive environments such as at work where employees are battling for a leadership role, or prison, or military. A taller man will have a small advantage in appearing more like a leader by sole virtue of height alone, and the smaller man would have to have a better leadership personality to make up for that deficit. We as people subconsciously do this for many things, even the tone of a person's voice. A man with a more powerful and deeper voice subconsciously affects people's minds the same way as tall height does. Beards do the same. Muscle mass does the same. And as I'm sure you have noticed, all these characteristics are considered to traditionally be "male" characteristics. Which is why it is men who make the abundance of people who wish to have greater measures of these masculine features (taller, stronger, powerful voice, etc).

Your Mom went i put half of it in! I never said you'd be the same height throughout your adulthood life. All I am saying is 5 ft. 8 or 5 ft. 9 are borderline average amongst the globe. Short is like 5 ft. 5 for men. For women around 5 ft. 2. I wouldn't call a woman who's 5 ft. 5 short, I'd call her average, same for a man who's 5 ft. 8 or 5 ft. 9. Plus a lot of people either measure their height wrong, lie, round up, or measure with shoes on. I honestly doubt the average male throughout the globe is 5 ft 10, it's probably a bit shorter than that. 5 ft. 10 average male height for U.S.? Maybe, but being an inch or two shorter isn't that much of a big difference. If a 5 ft. 8 and 5 ft. 10 male were walking side by side on the streets I'd probably couldn't tell who's taller until they go neck to neck. It starts to get significantly different at 5 ft. 8 compared to 6 ft.
