I am a banquet chef. I have lost track of how many times over the years I have cooked full four course dinners for three hundred plus person weddings, church groups, business meetings, etc. I can practically do it with my eyes closed. But if you put me in a diner during breakfast, I'm lost. I would fail miserably. Short order cooking at a busy diner really is a different animal altogether. Those guys surely have my respect.

The amount of food their pumping out on a daily basis and for the revenue that restaurant brings these guys should be making at least $20 an hour. They are going non stop pumping out what everyone is going there for.. the delicious food. Their skill set warrants the $20/hr. No one else could do that job efficiently and effectively as them. Anyone who possess those type of skills deserve it. In this world the owner always comes out on top.

In this video it's true that a short order cook has to move extremely fast working several orders at a time, because I did that years ago and you have to call the orders while you work and clear the board, because you will have another wave of customers, everyone has to work like as a machine and the key is communication

If I was an owner of a place like that and honored to have such good employees like them, I can assure you that they would be making a lot more then $10.00 an hour especially if they are working Sundays. The owner/management should be ashamed of themselves for paying them that little money for all they do. If I owned a resturant, I wouldn't hesitate to walk in there, offer those guys $20 and hour and a $1500 sign on bonus for them to work for me.

I agree with Sashacola. Even $10 an hour back in the 90's is shameful for their skills. Reguardless they are living in Chicago with a cost of living is ridiculous, they are not typical fast food workers. They are highly skilled labor and perform a job only years of on the job experience or highly trained culinary arts education could provide. You guys who think $10 for what they do is more then enough for what they do have never worked in food service. It costs the owners pennies on the dollar to make the food they are charging the customers (including tent and utilities). The only reason that owner is lucky enough to have them is "likely" because they all live together in a 1-room apartment living in a poor quality lifestyle so they can send most of their money back home to their families.

@@chefmesser420 I'm in Michigan. And I know I'm underpaid. Been a fry guy for years and moved up to the broiler 3 months ago. Been on point the whole time and I think I've earned my raise. Gotta ask tho xD hahaha

You call yourself a line cook. All I see on KZbin is line cooks cooking breakfast how about a line cook that can cook breakfast lunch and dinner all day every day every shift. I can cook breakfast all day long, but how about when you mix it up with lunch dinner and a 24 hour menu. Show me some of that and then I’ll be impressed because I am the guy that can do that. And I do that every day six days a week at the age of 54

I hate those teen squares. I hate those forget you women. I want to vomit.
