I think it depends on how open or tight a hole is for me, then I will decide how to play the hole. If it's open I can take a driver if a bit tighter might try to get in the middle of the fairway to a distance where I then can go for the green with a full swing!! Totally agree with just trying to get a GIR on the par 4's helps the scorecard!! Great video Simon!! 🏌♂⛳

I find full shots easier to do. A couple of times there I took the wrong club off the tee plus laying up in a bunker..........

Hi Simon, I would have liked to have just missed the bunkers and water but for me, normally, it would have been a trip into the jungle!! Have a great weekend!!

I have visited the jungle and elephant grass at times. Why is it called elephants grass? It's so dman tall you can lose an elephant in it. I was told by my caddy not to go looking for the ball as it's full of snakes too. I thought that was wise advice.

I layup into trouble a few times every year, even at my home course! Especially when the fairways are running fast in Summer.
@thehairygolfer10 ай бұрын
I've done that too. It's not until you run out of dogleg that you realise it's all getting a bit firm. Not an issue right now as the golf courses down here resemble a swamp. I'm getting tired of this rain now!

Lots of food for thought there! As I'm so short, I usually hit driver, and then have a full shot into the green. I think that, as a mid-handicap amateur, it is far easier to have a full 2nd shot to the green rather than fiddling around trying to take pace off a shot accurately, which inevitably ends up with a guess, and a ball either too short or too far. Interesting video as, I suspect, most of us "switch to neutral" when a short par-4 arrives, then wonder why we didn't par it!!!!

I suppose as you get shorter off the tee the number of options diminishes somewhat. I would still be looking for full shots where I can. But yes, you do feel a fool for messing something up of 300 yards or less and when you don't get a shot it's even worse. I feel I should be level par for all the holes under 340 yards. I have to for my handicap.

Just good common sense that sometimes isn't so common. Well done on a good course management vid.

Sometimes Stuart you have to play a hole badly to figure out the correct way. Hard to do on a course that is new to you. I knew all these courses so should not of made mistakes but we still do.

Every par 4 get's their own treatment from me. The feel of the day is a factor. Very long ones are played as par 5, my hcp allows it. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
@thehairygolfer10 ай бұрын
That's ideal playing the long ones as a par 5. No point over stretching yourself and making a maess of it. Take the 5 and look for the short ones to make net birdies.

If you want to test your short Par 4 game in Gloucestershire, Cotswold Edge has a cracking deal on annual membership at £600 a year.

That is a very good deal. Gets a bit windy up there at times but it needs that defence. It's certainly a course I enjoy playing.
