One thing I don't understand is why "-zz-" in "Buzzfeed" is pronounced like regular "-z-" like in the word "zoom" and not like "-zz-" like in the word "pizza"?
@kateshiningdeer3334
@kateshiningdeer3334 11 ай бұрын
I suspect because "pizza" is Italian. So the spelling and pronunciation reflect that. Just like Spanish pronounces J as H, and uses a tilde over the n, making Jalapeno into Halapenyo.

The term "late stage capitalism" was coined in the 1930's by a N@zi. The idea was the after Capitalism will inevitably fall people will just embrace National Socialism, later the Communists adopted this terminology, which is interesting...

You dont need a degree in journalism to be a journalist. A journo degree is more of a marker of hard leftism than of proper journalism. This is the age of citizen journalism. Anyone with the proper setup and enough time spent could be a great journalist.

You're right, Dev. It really IS about political burnout. We want to be informed, yes. But we don't want real-world politics in our fake worlds, like video games and movies, or even just in our friend groups. Now, there are fake-world politics that a lot of us still enjoy - Sci-fi and Fantasy have been giving us examples of better-run and worse-run societies forever, and the reading/watching and discussion of those is valuable, IMO. But we're all reaching the point (if we weren't there already) where we just want our hobbies to be a politics-free zone, at least for the most part.

My favorite line from a socialist was something like "we were supposed to have the utopia where AI would do all our work for us instead its putting writers and artists out of jobs!" This was funny to me, because socialists fundamentally deny reality in their ideology, and refuse to see the world for how it is, in favof of the dreams in their heads. In their minds, they expected robots doing everything for them. Completely oblivious and ignorant to the reality of just how far technology still has to go, to get there. A socialist's idea of the world is like that of Dan Cummin's "Smoothie Stand Guy" comedy bit. The crux of the joke being, how we all imagine ourselves to be amazing fighters in our imaginations, while the person we imagine ourselves beating, knows nothing at all. A false reality where we are superior in every way, and the world (in that dream) revolves around us. And the world just isnt like that

Interesting thing about this concept of Identity Formation, is that Far Leftists will do it over any insignificant point of Identity. This man was 'revolutionary' for his time, but he was still in the bounds of establishment thinking. His patterns of thought went on to dictate in part the whole schema of Far Leftism over all of the years we suffered it, and he also drove his knife into the heart of Journalism as an industry, along with everyone else like him. Good video but one quick thing was that the editor of Buzzfeed went on Tucker and explained (convincingly imo) his reasons for publishing the dossier. Prior to its publication the media and intelligence agents in the media kept alluding to it, treating it as a serious intelligence document. The media lashing out at Buzzfeed was because publishing this absurd-on-its-face document put a stake into the heart of their fun. And the timeline bears this out, Buzzfeed’s publishing of the document really did put an end to any allusions that it’s a serious document. A lot of journalists who maliciously treated it as serious were embarrassed that it saw the light of day.

Or that capitalist nations are inherently weak and on the verge of collapse? (Despite the fact they all survived COVID-mania?) The proof in front of their eyes is not enough, they'll believe Marx was right and that their personal utopia is just around the corner until it comes true, or they die, whichever happens first.

I think that whether or not someone is a socialist, when you are on some sort of mission beyond making money, but you need to make money to support that mission, it becomes easier to make more and more of it than if you are just trying to make money for its own sake. For instance, evangelical preachers also make a lot of money and (ostensibly) see themselves as on a mission from God. When you only want to make money, like a normal person woould, to buy things in the near future, instead of focusing on a long term goal, you never end up accumulating it. Especially when you don't stay dedicated and instead allow yourself to become distracted by things in the present...

Because, as capitalism proposes, everyone has their own self-interest. Socialists too. But socialists like to pretend they're heroes and representing the little guy, and a lot of people like to believe it. To Jonah and his schizo paper: Under a free market system, you certainly have the CHOICE to be a mindless consumerist, and attach your identity to particular brands. However, with a bit of self-awareness and self-discipline (concepts most leftists run away from like the plague), you can make the choice to NOT participate in mindless consumerism. If you consume mindlessly, that's YOUR OWN FAULT due to your own lack of self-control. I'd MUCH rather live in a free market system where there is so much prosperity I could choose to be a mindless consumer if I wanted to, than a socialist to communist system where the system itself severely restricts what you can consume due to the poverty such a system produces.

Hey Dev, what do you think about the recent UPS union contract? I work with Amazon through a logistics company, and have heard about their pay. I don't know, though... shipping prices through them might kill the progress the union made getting their contract through. I share your stance on workers needing advocates, but I don't think unions always do that as a function of their existence.

Normally I don't watch Rise and Downfall videos because I think a lot of the time they're very predatory and prey on people who had very insignificant controversies or merely had an incorrect opinion, but this time around, I approve because BuzzFeed has been deserving of Karma for a very long time. Both for the website's stupidity and their utter slander.

I used to follow BuzzFeed back in the day - not their journalism, just the silly stuff. They were tolerably entertaining for a while, but I started losing interest at the point where they started promoting period-blood art exhibitions and other such craziness. (I will say that their cooking videos are still pretty good; there's never been any politics there, from what I've seen.)

The title of the paper, "Capitalism and schizophrenia" is also actually a reference to the work of philosopher Gilles Deleuze' books with the same title. Deleuze is a post-modernist, he is anticapitalist but not really a Marxist. So it might be incorrect to classify the paper also as Marxist. Just a thing I thought might be relevant.

The whole "we speak for the masses" thing has been playing out since 1848. "Workers of the world unite" is a command from on high, the m@rxists never spoke for the masses, they talked down at the masses. What is happening is that circumstances are unfolding such that the workers of the world are uniting. Those who formerly spoke down at the masses without fear of contradiction and with the expectation of unquestioning obedience are not happy that they are 1) being questioned at all 2) being questioned without respite (no one is above the law? where is 3pstien's client list? where are those prosecutions?) vox populi vox dei

This man’s equating of revolutionary ideas to Schizophrenia is baffling and somewhat offensive. I’m not one to get offended much at anything, but it truly does take someone without context for the thing that he’s co-opting for his means (like anyone who takes Theory/Studies at face value) as a means to get across some sort of pseudo-philosophical BS to get me on that path. Sure, he kind of has a point about how Schizophrenic people are in essence stuck in their own reality and have, over time, no means to escape or even intuit what’s real Vs. what isn’t without some sort of medical intervention (Medication & Therapy IRL; Socialism and Communism in the Paper’s description). Same thing with how hyper-consumption of media/advertising is effectively changing peoples’s perceptions of themselves at record levels like something out of Transmetropolitan (great series). However, the equivalency falls apart when you consider that most who are born with it as part of their mind like some sort of insidious timebomb (that slowly kills the person with it) still do participate with Capitalism in various levels while never thinking too hard about how it affects them or others. It DOESN’T cause it nor does it seem like it…at least, unless you’re terminally online and allowing yourself to be shaped by media/opinions all day everyday 🤷🏽‍♂️ It’ll still be around even without Capitalism bombarding us with all these options/opinions and with the potential onset of another system of governance; it’s just a Pandora’s Box of sorts that we’ve kept archiving and keeping track of media to add to our civilization’s history/culture as a whole, with newer Disorders coming along the ride as an unintended consequence. Curiosity is just something that makes us human, so wanting to quash it out completely is pretty insidious no matter how it’s put. No wonder this guy ended up finding the equivalent of the Sixth or Seventh Seal, dooming us all…

I'm telling you, buzzfeed used to be incredible like 10 years ago. Really good content and surprisingly good scientific stuff. I used to watch them every goddamn day after coming from school. Then I saw them slowly worsen, they added more people I couldn't care less about, it became more and more opinionated, more cringe content, more "try" content. I could notice the shift even as a blind BuzzFeed fanatic. One of the reasons they were so popular was because they lived off their legacy. I almost puke when I see anything BuzzFeed related.

People want Escapism. Which is: Entertainment that's easy to digest and let's you get away from the real world for a while. Which makes what I said somewhat ironic since "The Escapist" more or less went the same way of Buzzfeed. I think that's why social media, for all it's flaws, wins out as long as it remains relatively possible to ignore the politicing when you want to. KZbin is a great example. If I feel like watching a guy solve sudoku, I do that. If I want to watch a videogame video, I will. If that video suddenly starts spouting politics, I might move on. Unless I watch the video for the political view too. Same with reddit. I don't use it myselv, but it has a lot of the same escapism that BuzzFeed etc were selling, but it's desentralized. If I want to read about a certain topic I can go to that subreddit. Heck, for all it's fault Twitter... erm sorry Elon, it's Xitter now right? For all it's fault, one of the most ingenious thing it has is word filtering and also muting of accounts. Which let's you curate your Timeline to feature things you want to, and ignore - for the most part - things unrelated to your topics of choice. Because people need to be able to escape the lunacy.
