Should age limits be set for US elected officials in office?

According to an NBC analysis, the current Congress is the second-oldest Senate and third-oldest House in American history. The median age for senators is 65, the highest on record. The median age for the House has hovered between 57 and 58, higher than any year before the past decade.
At 78, President Biden was the oldest person to ever be sworn in to the Oval Office. Before him, Donald Trump held the record at age 70 during his inauguration.

As far as I am concerned, yes there should be an upper age limit. There is no problem in elderly states persons to become advisors however, they become out of touch with current realities as they spend too much time in their position. Let people that represent the future rather than the past take the decisions that move the world forward. This may also reduce corruption.

The Kingdom of Butan has a law requiring the king to abdicate at the age of 65. This is a good example and has several benefits. The retired leader, as an ordinary citizen, will also live under the effects of his own policies. Many states should learn from Bhutan

Yeah I do think we need younger people in politics I don't care if it's present speaker house-senate time for change I look at where we are today in politics and I don't like what I see on the one hand we have a President who is more than capable at doing the job without baggage that brings him down but is too old to serve another term on the other hand we have a former commander-in-chief who can't keep his mouth shut to save his life and is all for himself how many more about himself

No, there is no need for age limits for any elected official in the United States. Just because President Biden is 80yrs old and a fair amount of elected officials from the House of Representatives to the Senate to even the SCOTUS are 50yrs old and above, does not mean that we need age limits. However, if age limits were hypothetically imposed on U.S. elected officials, the law would affect Trump IF he ever does get re-elected back into the White House for he is currently 77yrs old himself. If something like age limits on U.S. elected officials are going to be imposed, it needs to cover all elected officials no matter who they are.

Some great ideas for term/age limits: - House/Senate members can serve only 8 and 12 years, respectively. - Supreme Court judges serve until age 75 (like in Canada). - NO politician should serve past age 75.

Term limits? Why?... If they're doing a great job and the populace keeps electing them? Age limits? There are 90-year olds who are still active and tack sharp, and 60-year olds with advanced dementia. Yearly mandatory cognitive testing past a certain age (and/or whenever red flag behaviors manifest themselves) would be far more effective and appropriate.

This is not even a question: of course yes. There should be mental/senile evaluation but since those can be easily corrupted, those can't be trusted nor applied. If there is a minimum age for ability reasons, there is obviously a maximum for the same reasons. Very old politicians can still be counsellors (i hope it's the right temp) and help in a support manner to a younger person which may be more interested in the future then a person who hardly remember yesterday and don't know if they will see tomorrow. Will this change? No cause laws are made by politicians and politicians are old and getting older. They will never shoot themselves in the foot and they will never accept or support a young person going against their interests.

Also, the problem is not age, it is the spreading practice of placing incapable and manipulable people in offices so those who are actually in control don't risk exposing and let these senile people fall for any blame. Can people stop this? No cause in any democracy you vote for a minuscule part of the government, the rest they decide by themselves following their own personal agendas and human flaws.

12 year term limits for the Senate and House should solve the problem. Our founding fathers basic thought was put down your plow for awhile and go serve your country. When you are done return to your plow. Time to quit talking and make it happen.

Term limits? You bet your sweet *** there should be term limits. The way I see it is 1 (one) 6 year term for a Senator and 3 (three) 2 year terms for Representatives. The fact is President Harry Truman (a Democrat) was all for term limits. As he stated, "Term limits would cure both senility and seniority - both terrible legislative diseases." As far as the President, there are 2 terms for that office. But there needs to be an age limit of 65. The fact is, age doesn't always mean wisdom (as we've already seen). Could also set term limits on Supreme Court Justices of 1 (one) ten year term.

Age limits are unnecessary and miss the point. Not to mention how that might be ageism. The real solution is term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court. I mean, even the Hauge's Justices serve for only 9-year terms.
