98+% of the bodybuilders on KZbin show me 'What' exercises they do, reps, sets etc. Mike has shown me 'How' to move, the mechanics of training, if you will. I love watching the greats train, but they rarely go into detail about how to complete the movement, which is especially important for old geezers like me 😁 Thanks Big Fella 👍

I think a lot of people struggle to decide which they want more - the impressive physique or the impressive strength. So then they have a hard time determining how to train for their goal because the goal itself isn’t clear.

funnily enough even powerlifters train very light, the difference is we do pr, but if ur talking about programming singles in ur program they are generally very easy singles, like greg nuckols has his singles at 85% lmao sheikos singles are very light, and its not to train muscles but just the neurological adaptations (just making ur muscle more efficient at higher loads in simpler terms) and they do high frequency (3-6x per lift).

I've moved to a similar strategy of lifting lower weights for higher reps, and ~4 reps when I want to go hit the 'lift heavy' crack pipe. It's nice to hear similar thoughts coming from the greats.

Happy to hear that. But that structure isn’t directly correlated with the improvements u make. Lifting more weight doesn’t directly lead to bigger muscles and or better looking fuller muscles

For me, I had to realize I will never in my life step on a stage and I’ll never be a competitive bodybuilder. I was severely obese for most of my life until I made a change about 7 years ago. I went from 400lbs obese to 240lbs with some muscle. I bought into the progressive overload because I wanted to keep getting more muscle. It wreaked havoc on my life. Sore joints, always hurting, because I tried too much too quick and my ligaments and tendons weren’t conditioned. Now, at 42 years old, I am what k consider good shape, and will continue to train with the cues from MVW. My joints are good, and I’m actually adding a little more lean tissue! For some, I’m sure the progressive overload has its place. For me, I just train to keep the muscle I’ve got and stay healthy.

I also would say we shouldn't be trying to hit PRs to avoid injury as well. All those videos of dudes tearing shit, are bodybuilders trying to impress others with the poundages that no one cares about lifting. My best muscles groups are my chest and back; I look like I can bench 500 for reps, but I don't even bench, and I've always sucked at benching. I caught a recent video done by Mike Israetel, discussing how even strength is a genetic thing, and gear only improves lifts by 5-10%. So a lot of these guys chasing these numbers are going to get wrecked, even by natties who don't take anything, trying to impress people. I've seen high school kids squat way more than I ever could, yet their legs are 1/4 the size of mine lol; they need to watch your videos so they start lifting with their muscles, rather than pushing mostly from ligaments and joints.

Over the past 46 years, I trained with world class powerlifters and bodybuilders as well. They all develop their own ideas about what is best. I remember a funny experience with Ben Herder (dutch) who was a Mr universe at the time and even Joe Weider invited him to come over. Ben was squatting for 15 years. Didn't get the legs he wanted. Went to a welder man who made a leg press for him, so he did leg presses for the years to come. Most of these guys trained in garages, Btw. None of the fancy stuff was available at the time, and dianabol king.Ben Herder, Kalman Skallak, Arnold, Nubret Coleman, Haney. Huge chests. Same program. Nubret was known to do 30 sets of wide grip bench presses and falling asleep during side lateral raises on an Incline sort of ab board. LoL I just saw a video about a guy Ian Vallaire or so. “Nothing in bodybuilding is natural anymore". Syntol use? No problem. If those guys are the role models for the younger generation; Good luck! Guys, superman does not exist. PR's , who cares. We did powerlifting for some months and switch to bodybuilding style later in the year. Have fun and do not take the whole thing too serious. I saw an advertisement from one of the new gurus, Doug Brignole. For 300 bucks you can train with him for one hour and this guy is known to do only 1 exercise a muscle group, So you pay 300 bucks for seeing him do three sets of lying dumbbell extensions......? Learn from Mike how to use a machine, but do not go overboard with unrealistic expectations. It seems to me that we are more and more creating chemical miracles these days. I remember Casey Viator saying; if I die 10 days after I win the Olympia I'll die a happy man. Well......Didn't win the Olympia and died at an early age. I cannot say it was because of abuse, off course. Mike and Ray Mentzer 55. A guy asked him when I met him in Holland; (I was present) "when will I look like you Mike" ? Mike replied; "In 100 years we all look the same....."

Practically blew my speakers out when video went to "normal audio levels" when advertisement hit. Great info but if you're going to have to have your speakers blown out every time you listen because you have to have the volume at its highest level just to barely hear him when he speaks. Love his content but really get tired of CC to read so my speakers don't blow out. Maybe its just me but damn
