I'd say that is similar to blocking?¿ If you want him back: why unfriend him & if you don't want him back: why bother unfriending him as it looks like your'e still bothered & still thinking of him as if you are not bothered, WHY would you even BOTHER to look them up just to block them, unless you just want to completely & permanently forget them & you totally want them out of your life!! If you are REALLY & DEFINITELY moving on for good & forever & do NOT want them back: ie: any reconciliation, then that's obviously the right thing to do for you!! But blocking/unfriending can still send a message that s/he is STILL on your mind, unless you REALLY DO DEFINITELY want a fresh start & want to move on without her/him: with no reminders of the past!? Then I would just block them if that's the case!? BUT the very fact that you have even asked this question means to me anyway, that you're STILL bothered about him/her, s/he is still on your mind: otherwise you wouldn't care either way, lol!! I'm also in a similar position & trying to decide whether to block him too, like he's blocked me on fb!? @@lorrainetavares1753 Well yes, of course they were still on my mind ) I think now that I have a lot more experience with this and have seen what happens using all the methods, the best answer is to unfriend everywhere *early* when both you and the other person know that you are both thinking of each other, leave your profile public, and don't block them anywhere unless they are aggressive or violent. And if it's been a long time and you are both still connected online, then let them break the connection or wait until things are really quiet online, like neither one of you are posting very much, and then unfriend them quietly. What I mean by that is, don't unfriend them right after they post something that they could think inspired you to unfriend them

Sometimes you need to block. Just for you! In my case my ex was watching my social media for 4 months in NC. I finally broke it just BC I thought she was interested and found out she was rebounding. And she tried to friendzone me and manipulate me to be in her life as a doormat. We had a couple of weeks talking but instead of meeting in person she still slept with the other guy so I had to block her everywhere. Sometimes you don't have a chance unless you want to diminish yourself just for breadcrumbs and losing your value. Blocking may not bring her back (tbh I deserve better) but it's going to guarantee a 100% no contact which is going to make me heal and have a great life again.

@SnakeFangs I agree with everything you have said. Blocking means you value yourself more and you are willing to walk away from something that doesn’t serve you or make you happy. Especially when you are being taken for granted and are being used. A person shows how they feel about you through actions. Someone who doesn’t have time for you, pays you no attention or affection, can go on hours or even days without talking to you. And always makes excuses when it comes to you, shows they don’t care about you. If you stick around for all of that you have no one to blame but yourself for prolonging your hurt. I don’t think blocking an ex is a sign of immaturity. It depends on the reason why you did block him. I blocked my ex because I feel he’s a threat to my mental health. He warned me to tell the world about our intimate time, my sexy photos etc. This is the most devastating for me. It’s a matter of life and death with him. Remember this advice is for if you're wanting your ex back. If you don't care about whether or not you get back together, and it'll help you move forward, then block away. Whatever helps you move on. If they don't want to be in your life, then they no longer get to be a part of it. They don't get the right to "see inside" and know what's going on. I DO think there needs to be an important point of clarification regarding the blocking of the the ex on social media....and that is if it causes the dumpee to view the ex's fb page causing enough anxiety to potentially break no contact at a bad time. I think this is an important risk that should be mentioned. I would rather stay in no contact than risk breaking no contact from an anxious reaction of viewing my ex's fb post that could trigger such a reaction. If I had to choose between the greater risk, I think it would be me breaking no contact rather than being seen as "petty." I also have a couple dear friends that have indeed blocked their ex (they didn't want to shut down their fb page-that would be giving way too much power to the ex) and made good on that move by walking away for good. Interestingly, in BOTH cases, their ex's contacted them through other means.

For the love of God people, just go no contact for at least the most painful part of breaking up. No one (neither you or your ex) has the clarity of mind needed to get their ex back early on and any action will turn them away. Certainly nothing wrong with stacking the deck in your favor, so too speak. ^^ I agree with the sentiment of not blocking them, if your goal is to get them back, there are far too many ways that... that action could be construed as something that you didn't want it too be, it is too much of an extreme, just like stalking an ex, showing up to their house/a frequented hot spot by an ex. No matter what action you take, we really do not know how it will be perceived, especially if the love glasses have worn off on either party, it really is a tricky thing to know... when to leave them alone for real, or they just need a little space. They say love will find a way if it is meant to be, but yea if you want an ex back, it would be prudent to go with a path that generally works for others in a similar situation.

Coach Lee, once I decided I’m done trying to get him back, I deleted my fb account and blocked his phone number so that I could really start working on my healing and moving on. I started waking up feeling better each day, better about myself and life in general and hopeful for the future. The anxiety of wondering’ “will I hear from him today” went away which has allowed me to focus on just moving forward. I started getting no caller ID calls and voicemails about how he made a mistake. Funny thing is, I no longer want him back. I realized it was just the sudden loss that really hurt me. I’m over that hump now and excited for the future!

I tried to communicate with him twice, the final time I was going to explain to him I was going to block him that right now, I cannot be friends, but he again pushed it away all nonchalant expecting me to beg him to talk to me so I told him goodbye and blocked him. Do I still have after effects? Yh I do. Do I care yeah, but I am seeing things he used to say to me and seeing what I tolerated. And now I do not regret blocking him.

I blocked her because it hurt to much and I was always checking her. Today I almost go to look at her profile, but I realize it would make me weak. I thought it would create a bigger mistery if you go cold turkey with them. Not seeing or hearing would make you miss them more.

For the first week and a half of our break-up I blocked my ex from calling me. I didn’t block him on Instagram. However when I began watching Coach Lee and he said not to block them so they can text you, I immediately unblocked my ex. I’m grateful I have. I’m waiting patiently.

Strategically, it's better to not block because the dumper won't expect this but if you don't block then you might expose the dumper to your erratic behavior. Don't block ONLY if you have the emotional fortitude to keep it together and not post sad memes or stuff that'll make him/her think you're pathetic. Blocking looks weak, but not as weak as posting annoying sad memes, etc that the ex can see if you've not blocked him or her. If you block in the early stages when you're already in the weak position, I think the dumper usually expects this to a certain extent. I don't think it's going to knock you down any further because you're already at lowest point. I blocked an ex on social media and it helped me move on. I do expect he'll reach out to me, but I'm not interested in him because he wasn't right for me. I'm still just reeling over the sudden break up.

Yes it is worth taking the time to block them. I don’t want the distraction. And blocking leaves lots of mystery. They don’t deserve to see my like if they don’t prove their value and breadcrumb. If the connection was real they will realize regardless of blocking or not if they are evolved and the connection was meaningful (or not)

Sometimes you have no choice. 2 months after the breakup my ex kept texting me every week. Just for texting, without any commitment. I asked him why is he texting me, especially when I'm his ex. I mentioned if he wants to talk, work out on our issues, we can. If not, then no force, asked him to not text me, because I want to move on and find someone new. We had horrible conflict, he said horrible things to me, confirmed he had never loved me, that he could easily find someone better than me. So I blocked him everywhere for my own good. He really offended me, then he started ignoring me. So I had no choice. I don't want back a guy, who used me for fun...

I blocked her because I still love her and just can’t take her games and weird attitudes after she called it off with me. Seeing her all over social media hurts me and for my own mental health, I believe it’s best for me to blocked her. I think there’s a difference between blocking and unfriending. Blocking isn’t necessarily permanent and shows you’re taking care of yourself and healing. Unfriending sends a much stronger message that you no longer want them in your life as it’s permanent unless you add them again (which kind of seems like begging).

I told her when we broke up that I really wanted it to work and that I couldn't be friends because I cared too much for her and her daughter, so I had to move on. I wasn't going to be her friend while she dated other people. Turns out, she got involved with someone almost immediately, so I just unfriended for my own piece of mind. She at least knew it was likely to happen, and I think she'll have regrets since we do have a lot of the same friends. I can't sit and wait forever for someone that wouldn't do the same.

As I see it you can look at this from diferent angles. I blocked my ex. This was the second time she broke up with me and I see no way back anymore. I would not be able to thrust this relationship anymore. I felt I needed to do this for myself, my grief process. Which had nothing to do with her. I still love her and she meant a lot to me and I did not wish to hurt her but in this case I need to think about my self.

Hi Lee, I def blocked my ex, changed my phone #, and stayed away from Social Media for very good reasons. I was dating a Narc who was constantly hurting me and FUTURE FAKED me for years, I had enough. If he was a normal guy, and we had "normal" arguments, I would not block him. If the same problem kept occurring, maybe it would be time to call it quits. If you BOTH love each other, and the problem is fixable, DON'T BLOCK THEM.

When he left me broken hearted, I deactivated my fb and ig. Changed to a regular phone too. But I didn’t block or delete him. After a year reactivated my social media accounts but never followed him anymore. He’s just there we’re both friends with each other just turned off his notifs. It was he who followed me more than I did when we were still ok. Blocking someone is putting an energy to it. Going through the process of blocking someone is putting an energy. I don’t have the energy to do it. I am busy with something else
