People need to pay their debts. The fact that she is willing to take ownership of it and try to pay it off before marriage is a healthy indicator. I agree that people should do things in the right order with regards to education, job, marriage, then children, but some of the outcome disparity is correlation, not causation. People who are already in medical school are going to have a good income marriage or not, they just tend to be the people who do things by the books, and have upper middle class families who will pressure them to delay childbearing until after marriage. On the other hand, people who come from single mother households with no pressure to marry are also often stuck in low paying jobs, their job prospects don't suddenly multiply once they get a marriage license. Idk, it's a real chicken and the egg problem. I have so much admiration for the people who are able to break the cycle, it's so hard to do something different from the family and community you were raised in.

I strongly disagree. When graduating from a private, very expensive, MBA program, I spoke to several older parents about this very topic. The common thought was that they encouraged their daughters to get into heavy debt because their future husbands would be there to pay it off. My conclusion is this for any single man: Do a TRW on that hot girlfriend before getting too involved. A poor FICO score meant to kick her to the curb. Only get serious if that hot chick has high 700s to low 800s. Why should the man, being financially responsible enought to have little to no debt, ever want to get legally attached to some in debt woman. Kid or no kid. I look at debt as I would look at a convicted felon. No thanks! You might be sticking up for women because our culture demands that. But I am into equal rights and equal responsiblity.

He helped her get into debt by making her a single mother. Find out a bit more about who you are making life altering choices with before making the choice. That one night stand can end up being a 18 to 24 year commitment.
@josephinenelan4204

Bruh, "kid or no kid" kids legally bind people, and when a high earning man continues to increase in wealth, women can go to the courts for increased child support from him even if they split. If this dude picked a bad one, he has already trapped himself for 18years. They are already making babies. If debt is as bad as convicted felons, then you gotta scrap the "kid or no kid" and tell dudes to not make kids with these felons.

For sure they need to know the facts, if she feels guilty sounds like she has a lot of debt. Did Dave or Rachel even ask how much debt? You can simpify finances by having a small joint account for bills etc. It is her debt and Dave and Rachel are right, it is hard to manage finances but without knowing all the facts and working towards the same goals. No man wants to take on a great amount of debt. Lots of things to unwrap here, they shouldn't have had a kid etc, but life happens. Sounds like she is responsible and wants to pay off the debt so will probably be fine either way.
