Should I just replace my Phantom 4P?

On today's episode we discuss about navigating new drones and keeping and using old and reliable drones such as the Phantom 4P. Our question is from Scott, who runs a drone business since 2017 and uses the P4P as his main drone and a Mavic Pro as backup. Scott would like to know if he should look at using other drones as his main drone and what would be the best drone as he looks to update his drones.

I recently updated to current firmware on my P4Pv2. I have used DD, PIX4D, and Measure on around 10 missions with no issues. Can you verify your statement at min 2:00? Can you also post the firmware and software version that renders apps unusable? Yes, I registered my remote ID on the FAA website. Thanks again.

Same here. Although I had trouble with the update at first, I was eventually able to update the firmware. I haven’t tested Litchi yet but Drone Deploy seems to be working. I also wasn’t sure about properly registering the remote ID as the code provided needed a couple extra characters to fit the FAA registration. I have had a couple issues starting DD missions where the drone would rise up a few feet, sit and hover until I raised the drone manually. After bringing it up a few feet, the DD mission would kick in and run properly.

I think the V2 is ok on the update, it’s the original P4P that gets affected maybe?

Is the camera on the M3E capable of a higher frame rate?

What about the P4P RTK? Switch to M2E? Colleagues have switched. Still have P4P V1 for backup.

Great Video guys as always, I live in Australia so FPV Avata is out of the question (FPV is pretty well banned) & I do not have a P4. I am looking to start a businnes in July. I want do to Photogrametry, Solar inspections, Site survey maping and maybe some vidiography then eventually LiDAr. What Drones do you recomend for these. Thank you

I've run across some really nice, great quality DIY FPV kits. Sorry, cant recall the channel or brands, but theres a guy who does long range landscapes that uses one you should be able to find. They send you the parts and you build, add a battery, GoPro and the DJI interface module and you are good to go. As DroneU says there is no perfect drone that does it all. Theres videos that go into detail, but in regards to Photogrametry (PG), it can be done with a number of DJI's, but if you want pro level you need the Mavic 3E. The main reason is that it has a mechanical shutter so it will get better results than the digital shutters on the others, but as they said the M3E doesnt have the higher frame rates for video...for some reason. Come on DJI, help a brother out! If you dont need pro PG, then even a mini will do a pretty good job, it will just take a little longer and not be as crisp. Solar inspections, Mavic 3 Thermal with no mech shutter or if you have the money Mavitrice 300/350 and there are a few options for thermal payloads, but you are talking quadruple the price over the M3T but you are alos investing in a system that can carry a LiDAR payload as well so long term might be a good investment for you. LiDAR you need a Matrice 300/350 or IF800 if you want to go American/non=Chinese. Theres other options, but those are the mains. Best of luck!
