The BBC is almost completed.... We picked up some stud used stud girdles, hopefully they hold up for a while. Would love to go shaft mount at some point, but just not in the cards at the moment. This elbow spacer combo is pretty tall too, may have to switch this up... lol What do y'all think?

Do things differently this time around. Set the bar higher. You’ve got good friends around you. Try to build this car with plenty of work space and well thought placement of plumbing and wiring. All your old cars were hard to look at. Wires everywhere and they just didn’t seem to flow well. Piping, plumbing, wiring. Just make it look cleaner. This car deserves it and so do you.

It really is! He's losing over 500lbs, getting a much better chassis and suspension, moving the engine back like 8+inches, OH yea and going to a BIG Block! There will be a learning curve in the beginning, but once it's ironed-out, it's going to be 💯 serious Contender (on any surface).. I'm looking forward to seeing him have the engine/chassis to be able to compete with the top small tire N/P guys (kcmax, Frankenstein, Cantu, etc) He deserves to have better stuff.. he works his ass off, and super humble.

What determines the amount of oil to the top end of the engine are the clearances, not the "volume" of the oil pump. Once the open pressure of the bypass is achieved the remaining volume is bypassed from the engine oil passages back to the pan. The engine clearances do not change with rpm therefore the amount of oil to the top does not either. A higher volume oil pump will bypass more oil but pump no more to top of the engine at max pressure.

Sad but true with high flowing heads which these are..... They're over 365 CNC heads I can tell . Hope he doesn't but I I'm sure with that camshaft and rpm they'll break . Sucks but true

It takes 10 mins to cut an oil filter apart. 2 oil changes in 135 race miles so far, both cut apart, plus a sample so far analyzed. I did not analyze my straight 30W breakin oil. But, now have a baseline to warn me of future changes over time. First filter had some minor trash ( but that block sat at machine shop for over 12 months, 3 weeks so it was expected). 2nd had a total of 7 tiny specks in it totally unfolded over 6' plus of filter material.

Maybe that thin bushing is too thin to hold the press fit. Spinning it and starving the top hole access to oil and creating too much heat growng the pin then pin grabs the pistons and wipes out the pin bores... Tops of piston are brand new and if the rings still have tension i cant see it being a tunning issue, not that i know what im talking about. Im facinated by mechanical failure. Always been very interresting to me

The problem with the lx next pro blocks is that they only have 4 x 7/16" holes to drain ALL the oil back into the pain. The oil from the heads drains into the lifter valley too, no passages into the pan from the heads like a gen1 sbc. Mine got to 15psi oil pressure at 8800. Didn't hurt it, just needed bearings redone. This time I have a 10qt pan and slots cut into the lifter valley similar to how your bbc is done.

I've seen that same thing happen on many of weiscos bushed rod ends. They say thinner bushing allowed more material on the small end for strength. I still think it is too thin and y'all ready for aluminum rods anyways
@precisiondiesel225

Aluminum rods are very forgiving and when there is a rod failure, they don’t tear everything up like a steel rod does.
@davidgough1161
@davidgough1161 Ай бұрын
I think that is why aluminum rods are becoming more common, there is more wear on the pin side. I think that is normal for a steel rod for a drag car. I have been watching a lot of people have gone to an aluminum rod due to this wear and then not going 40-50 runs for a set of rods. They are not junk, just a different animal these days. You are getting more power than even a few years ago. It is the evolution of the sport, some things wear more as you make more power. I think this is an example of the evolution of the sport.

Put those engines on an engine dyno. best to give it a few rounds of being beat on BEFORE you go through all the issues of getting the engine assembled in the car. Then you know your horsepower numbers and torque numbers and where to accordingly set up the rest of your combo to get the best performance and fastest passes.

I bet oil squirters would have helped Mikes pin bearings. They make a kit with a drill jig so you can install them yourself in an LS. But it would need torn down the rest of the way.

What about rod side clearance? You can still check that... If sufficient oil was not there to lube the wrist pins that would suggest that the rod side clearance was tight. Some teams notch the side of the rod to direct oil to the piston.

I ran dss pistons and boost line rods last year and had detention going on that didn't show on the plug. Had head gasket failures what seemed randomly. Tore it down and the only bottom end issues I found was the piston collapsed around the pin and seized the pin from turning in piston. I had h series bearing and they looked awsome. Maybe the piston distorted blocking oil passage to the pin bushing in your case? Just a thought.

The discoloration of that pin is a piece of the puzzle we didn't have last time. I'll pull back about 50% of my it has to be detonation thought. That is starting to look more and more like an oiling issue which absolves the rod or piston because let's face it those are very good parts. Maybe check the pin sizing on the new motor and have the pins fit if anything is even slightly off or inconsistent. I'm not sure I completely buy the high volume oil pump issue unless you did have some anomalies in the log about oil pressure. Oh and the elbow is TOO much.

Where does the oil from the oil pressure bypass go? Unless it goes to the top of the engine, this whole high volume pump thing seems like nonsense to me. The pressure relief determines how much volume can actually go though the engine. At a point, in order to push more volume through the engine, higher pressure HAS TO happen. Without the higher pressure, no additional volume can go through the engine, it all just goes through the pressure bypass. Right? Logically you need just enough volume to create the desired pressure in operation, and no more, because that is just extra heat in the oil, but beyond that, I think the "oil in the top of the engine" is an old wives' tale.
