Following a disappointing conclusion to the 2024 campaign - a 130-109 loss to the Indiana Pacers in which Jalen Brunson broke his hand - morale has been on the up and up in the Big Apple.
The team swung and hit on a massive blockbuster trade to reunite Mikal Bridges with his Villanova buddies (Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo) and then followed that grand slam by re-signing OG Anunoby to a five-year, $212 million contract.

Player A takes more $ to help their family. Player B takes more $ to help their team. The only way, "bad precedent" can be applied to either of these actions is if it's being done by sports media. The problem is, instead of pitching Brunson's selfless decision to an open discussion: You propose it as a debate topic - "Is Brunson's move setting a bad precedent...?" - Leading people to pick a side of that discussion, instead of just congratulating an all-around feel good story. Maybe, with Skip getting clipped from FS1 - We can finally move on from the 'debate-everything' format...

More money to attempt to win doesn’t equate to winning but taking the money doesn’t mean you are happy. I look at Love situation a few seasons ago or Lillard a few seasons ago. Money don’t mean the end all be all. I think each player is responsible for making that decision on their own. The pay cut wasn’t to keep that team together it’s really to keep flexibility. Once you’ve gained what you “think” is a championship roster then flexing is not longer needed. Teams like Boston or Denver don’t need flexibility anymore.

Yeah, Donovan Mitchell needs security. The hundred million dollar sign in his bank account ain’t enough. Shaving 20 million off of this quarter billion dollar contract would’ve been too hard. Brunson shows once again that he is playing chess while Donovan is playing checkers. Mobley hasn’t even earned the max. But he’s going to take it. As soon as the money runs out, they will leave.
