Should Pierre Gasly replace Sergio Perez at Red Bull? (2 years after being dropped)

Pierre Gasly & Sergio Perez are both part of the Red Bull Family. Pierre at Alpha Tauri, Sergio at Red Bull. Going into 2022 though, should things stay that way?
Mid season is when most driver contracts seem to be sorted. The teams themselves are on 2 week break from the factories, so I guess there's nothing better to do.

You should do a PCR test btw. Lateral flow tests are very inaccurate and I've personally been in a situation where my entire house had Covid but didn't know because our lateral flow tests kept coming back negative.

Give Perez at least a season. Gasly is great driver, but i think Perez deserves a drive with a top team in a top car. Perez is older and might not get another chance in F1. Given Gasly's performances and if he continues this form, he will drive for Redbull.

I think keeping Pierre at AT and Checo in RB for 22 is worth it for stability’s sake. Better to keep these guys where they are right now so they can come into the new regs already comfortable in the team. After 22 when we see what the pecking order looks like RB will have a better picture of who to bring up. Pierre is in the form of his life at AT right now so another year as the team leader there isn’t exactly a waste. Checo is has also shown that the capability is there and that he’s willing to play ball as No.2 so unless he has a mega shocker of a 2nd half I don’t see a reason to drop him

@@default123default2 Well that's up to Gasly, isn't it? He can choose to exit and try to get into another team. I would give him a nice chance at Alpine or Williams. Williams might need a proper team leader if Russell gets promoted, and Alpine might need someone to replace Alonso and challenge Ocon. Otherwise, there's not really a chance at a competitive seat. Frankly, adding a gaggle of good F2-drivers and some drivers in other classes (Herta, O'Ward and De Vries come to mind), F1 is fucking STACKED at the moment. Gasly doesn't have a lot of safe options. Going back to J Chaarani, that comment nails it. It makes sense for the whole Red Bull team to keep things stable for once. All four drivers are doing okay, with both team leaders doing exceptionally well. There's absolutely no reason to shake things up.

Perez is a fantastic wingman. The strategy RedBull used in France was brilliant, and Max and Sergio could both execute their own part of it very well. When Max exploded out in Baku, Sergio was there to salvage everything he could, which worked out well for RB again. He's doing a good job, for now at least. Maybe Pierre could do the same or even better, maybe he'd not be as effective as a second driver.

@@default123default2 i think the whole reason Pierre was slow cause he was in it to challenge max. look at Felipe Massa he came into Ferrari think he would be as quick as Schumacher. but once he had realised he wasn't gonna challenge Michael for the lead driver at Ferrari built up his confidence got into a good relationship with Rob Smedley his engineer and because of those factors he was able to be on his day quicker than Michael on his day. but that was the problem on his day to be great EVERYDAY is your day.

I’d like to see Gasly escape the Red Bull machine and start building connections at another team. Red Bull’s priority is always going to be Max, and I don’t think Pierre is as okay with being a #2 driver as Checo is. But at the end of the day it’s all about what the drivers and the teams want to do. I’m excited for these announcements to come out, whenever they do.

Pierre might do really well in this year's Redbull, infact most drivers would because as Horner and Albon said, the car is much faster and more stable in the rear, the issue however is next year's cars will be completely different and most likely have little downforce (being the first version of these new generation) therefore they're probably really tough to drive just like we saw in 2014, so I doubt Pierre would do any better in those than he did in 2019 (unless of course he's changed his driving style to suite twitchy cars). Just a theory still.

@@lowe2302 Yes but that car was completely unstable compared to this year and Pierre is a totally different beast after things Pierre has been through, Both Max and Pierre were talking about the struggles they were both having in the car in pre season 2019 but because Max has been at RB since 2016 he got adjusted quicker than Pierre

The constructors title fight is still on because of Perez yet hes on his first season there. With Max winning so much and getting consecutive poles the RB has been the clear better car overall, which makes the second driver seat a much more pressured environment compared to previous seasons like 19 and 20. I know the Gas-man is doing great at AT, but I would be pissed if Perez wasn't at RB for at least 2 years.

Yeah the constructors title fight is still close because perez isn't doing his job. He needs to be there in cases like silverstone but he wasnt. He is behind both mercedes who have a slower car and even behind a mclaren. How is this doing a good job as a second driver? I think in these 11 races he helped verstappen no more than 3 times.

It seems to me that you have missed to acknowledge the elephant in the room, and that is the fact that the RB car is so particularly different to drive. That RB car fits perfectly for Max, but is soo difficult for most other drivers. The main difference between Perez and Gasly is that Perez kept his head down until he more or less learned to drive it. Gasly just kept asking RB to change the car to fit him until they got enough and gave him the boot.

Now the season is over Perez definitely deserved that seat for a second season. The question is what about after? If Checo performs well they should keep him beyond. For Pierre they will probably keep him at alpha tauri. Where else would he go? Ferrari and Mclaren have long term lineups, alpine have a stack of promising juniors queuing for Alonso's seat. If you were Pierre then you'd have to be looking at Lewis or Vettel to retire and try to get in there

I think what RB need right now is stability. As a huge fan of Gasly, I think the best thing for him and both RB teams is to keep Checo and Verstappen at RB and Tsunoda and Gasly at AT for 2022. After that put Gasly in the RB and any combination of Tsunoda, Vips and Lawson in AT

Well depends. Checo was bought in for situations like Silverstone, where if max dnfs , he needs to win . Granted he made a mistake in the sprint , but that's my point , his job isn't to win or overtake a lot , he needs to keep it clean and speed up if max dnfs like baku. Maybe the Aston Martin seat could up for grabs if Vettel retires end of next season. Checo is perfect where he is. As much as people don't like having a number 1 and number 2 driver, it's best for the team and is always going to happen. I think Checo is the perfect number 2 driver. I hate seeing teammates battling on the track, it makes me cringe. I know it's the next season after this video, and I think so far the 2022 season, Checo has proven he's perfect at the job. I love seeing him in a position to get regular podiums, and occasional wins. I also don't think Gasly has the right personality to be a number 2 driver. I think Checo should get his current seat at least through 2024, unless something major happens.

I still haven't watched the video so maybe I'm speaking too early but honestly I'm getting kinda tired of people making this such a big deal haha. Perez has been pretty unlucky I think. Sprint race is useless and I don't think should be part of the sport and it's what ruined his Silverstone stint. At Hungary he lost opportunity for a 3rd place. Yes he hasn't been flawless but I think he'll naturally become more dominant and he WILL be better. He's been miles better than the last drivers on that seat and he has been challenging the second Merc. It's still very early and people have started being critical real fast just after praising him. Give him AT LEAST one season.

Some are mentioning how Pierre needs to get redemption at Red Bull. I say Screw redemption and have him go to Alpine or McClaren. Lando and Pierre could be a problem for the rest. So long as Checo’s backed by Telmex and Slim he’ll have no problem walking onto a team in the future.

I know Red Bull is as unpredictable as a Tornado's route as it comes to management, but I really hope Sergio stays for 2022, althought it'll be not a surprise if Red Bull yeet him out at the end of the seasion, I'll still be guttered. Saying that Checo's win in Baku shouldn't count because "Max would have gotten it if his tyre hadn't exploded" isn't really valid. First of all, a win is a win, no matter the circumstances you got it and second of all, Checo was in the correct place to pick up the pieces when it failed apart for max, something neither Pierre, nor Alex ever did. It is undeniable that Checo has done much better in the first half of this season than Pierre and Alex did combined in all of their time at RB, so I would say he deserves at least another season in RB.

I think it's valid to say, but a bit unfair (and don't get me wrong I know Tommo likes Checo). Surely Max would have won if his tyre hadn't blow up, but Sergio's merit was remarkable. To hold off Lewis like he did, plus he qualified P7, started P6 (Norris penalty), but managed to get to P4 within the first lap and P3 in a few more laps. Plus his lap times almost matched those of Max, and even with a not so good pit stop, he still came out ahead. That's all merit. I've come to think every driver's win is 100% on merit, just because they were there to seize up those wins. Say Ocon P1 in Hungary was only possible because of the ruckus on the first corner? Sure, it may be nearly impossible for him to win in this Alpine, but he was there and still had to do 70 laps. Same could be said for Gasly's win in Monza, and even Checo's win in Sakhir.

When talking about these figures, the point is to imply performance. I'm simply saying that Perez's win wasn't a purely performance centric result, he was reliant on that DNF. Performance and results don't always corroborate, worse teams win football matches sometimes. 🤷‍♂️

I dont think Pierre is ever getting back to Red Bull. I think there is something about his work attitude that didnt go well with Horner and Marko. When you listen to Horner talk about Pierre, it is almost as if he is talking about a closed chapter. I seriously doubt if Marko and Horner also want a Rosberg/Hamilton intrateam battle. This is the first time that Redbull are so close to the constructors championship and it was in the year sergio perez drove the second red bull. He is their best choice, as he knows his role in the team, delivers the results needed and will not challenge the status quo visavis Verstappen.

@@fharidvalencia2068 no if I am right max was 6 seconds infront before the safetycar because of the crash of stroll and 4 second ahead when he crashed so in total he was 10 seconds gaster from the potstop up until the crash wher 2-3 seconds where because of the slow pitstop. I could be wrong and remebered it wrongly but I believe it was sometging like that

Gasly is my favorite driver aswell, but I don't want to ever return to Red Bull, unless Max somehow leaves the team. I don't think Number 2 driver role fits him whatsoever and obviously while comparing to Max, pressure is constantly higher than on other teams.

Pierre is doing a very similar job to what Lando is doing this year, he’s just in a slower car. He’s showing his consistency, alongside his raw pace, and he’s more or less maximising the result every weekend. I’d love to see him get another shot at Red Bull, but I can’t help but feel it’d somehow go a similar way as 2019

Checo reminds me of Fisichella, who didn't perform in big team ( Renault ). So, how about switching Gasly and Checo? Checo to AT, Gasly to RB.

Perez for Redbull is like Bottas for Mercedes. I don't think they expect him to win races, challenge for wins etc. His main point is to get in the way of Mercedes as much as possible. Messing up their strategy, pushing for P2 etc.

I'm not even gonna watch this one, gasly and perez are my favourite drivers, pierre had a chance at rb, failed. Perez was given one, one win and a perfect support driver plus he is battling with bottas and norris for P3 which is expected cause he is ending up in the top 5. Pierre is absolutely dominating in alpha but that doesn't mean he's gonna qualify P5 and and finish in the points every race over at RB. Conclusion: RB and alpha keep their lineup for another year is a MUST after that Pierre might even go to alpine or aston but perez might not be offered with the second chance

Only problem I see about holding off for 2022 too check what is happening with the other teams is: A team like Williams will defintely have an idea of where they are and what they want to achieve, so they would love to lock in good drivers for several years and Gasly would just find himself out of a seat.

Some fans are getting crazy with Gasly.. His teammates Hartley Tsunoda and Kvyat were bottom 5 level drivers.. I like Kvyat but he was vandoorned by Sainz (90-8 pts) and he was out of F1 on merit. In RedBull Albon was much better and could have won once or twice if not for Hamilton. This year the AlphaTauri has been in the group of Ferrari and Mclaren but Tsunoda is so bad it doesnt look like that. I mean.. It doesnt matter how good or bad you drive next to Tsunoda because you will look like Alonso at his prime. Once he gets into another team with a decent midfield driver I think he will struggle a lot and be out of the sport in a couple of years.

I love how everyone is saying “let Sergio have another year” but everyone was so quick to kick out Pierre and Alex, both of whom had much worse cars than Sergio has and have much less experience but were held to the same standards. And now everyone wants to let Sergio get the second chance because he hasn’t been the success everyone predicted.

Well, Sergio may not be doing the perfect season so far but he’s doing a decent job to at least keep Red Bull within the constructors championship, something both Pierre and Alex failed to do during their time. Remember, this is barely the first half of the season, I believe we should all wait and see how well Sergio performs this upcoming second half to determine whether or not he deserves to keep his red bull seat.

@@CesarHernandez-nr9df Perez is doing better cause the car is much better than the last two seasons. He's still got a similar deficit to Verstappen that Albon and Gasly had. Verstappen has either finished 1st or 2nd in races he doesn't have an incident, Perez has 1 podium well earned podium and a lucky win. There's still a big gap
