A guy named Hymie Elhai is currently team president and he helped hire Joe D. It looks like he has a lot of marketing responsibilities beyond football. The Jets need a strictly-football guy to oversee all on-the-field stuff. But I don't think they will do it.

Our focus when looking for players next season needs to be bringing in DAWGS meaning players with something to prove and actually love the game of football they don’t have to be big names I’ll take a team full of depth unknown players that play hard over a star studded roster that can’t play together

Without even seeing the whole video, the answer is yes. Absolutely yes. The less the Johnsons are involved, the better. Let him be the guy that keeps them at bay and be the guy the GM/coaches have to answer to but also acts as a resource to go to. Get me Ken Dorsey to do it to add some legitimacy to the job so good candidates don't just balk at the idea of dealing with the Johnsons.

It doesn't make sense because in essence the president of football operations is a person who is instead of the owner, the owner does nothing and leaves everything to this person, which would work for owners who are hands off. I don't see the Johnson's paying anyone for that role since they are going to want to have some input anyway, might as well just have a General manager, the Johnsons can be like this is our vision of what we want our team to look like and it will be up to the general manager to execute it A football operations guy is more like for owners that acknowledge I don't know anything about football you're the expert do what's best

Yeah unless the Johnson’s stay out of affairs (which I doubt, unless woody takes a government position again) this probably won’t work. Regardless I still think this structure would be better than the current structure because it seems like this setup would leave less room for meddling but Woody would just fire the guy anyway if he didn’t like the direction.

One of the biggest reasons the Jets have failed so miserably the last decade plus (really since Woody enacted this process) is their absolutely ridiculous organizational structure. The one Woody claims “works” for the Jets. I don’t know what his definite working is, selling some Hassan Reddick jerseys? This idiotic org chart where the GM and coach report to Woody (or Little Woody Chris Johnson) independently. Asinine. Hire a GM and let him run everything football related. Look at other teams to see how they do things and how they DO NOT do things (the Jets way) and get it together. Woody has owned the team 25 years!!!! How is this inability to hire a staff still plaguing this mickey house operation?

Sounds great, but I don't trust Woody to keep hands-off. ESPN show reported that Woody was spotted in the offensive planning meeting for this week's game. What could Woody possibly have to contribute to an Xs and Os meeting on offense? I mean, this how much he has his fingers involved in operations. Woody was having daily calls with Saleh last year to review game plans. I've said before he needs to be banned by the NFL from having anything to do with football operations while a competent team of front-office personnel rebuild this organization.

I like the idea of a president of football ops with a say or full control of GM and coach. If Rodgers comes back next year the Jets project maybe have better candidates after he is done. I still like and root for Rodgers, but its been tough to watch.

Yes, Woody doesn't know how to hire a GM. Hopefully, Woody becomes the ambassador to a small island in the Pacific and leaves the Jets alone for four years. A prior GM who has won a superbowl acting as de facto owner in Woody's absence would do this team a lot of good.
