I’m with Al. If you want to dress up, go out and work for it and have innocent fun, then I have no problem with it. Heck, I’d still do it if people weren’t so weird about an adult trick-or-treating. Candy is so easy to come by now but it’s about the fun and celebration, and the smell of all that candy mixed together in your bag.
@GamerofOldАй бұрын
That is the thing though. Why is it weird? I mean really it is harmless. Plus I don't know about you but all of us probably have kids in our family who would love the extra candy. You could trick or treat as an adult, gather candy, and then share it with a kid or relative who couldn't celebrate the holiday. I think we are looking at it the wrong way here. It is about having fun. Period.
@fearfulclan2007Ай бұрын
One word of advice. NEVER leave your candy bowl on your door step. We did that one year so we could go trick-or-treating and when we came back, the entire candy bowl wasn't on our door step anymore, so someone stole it and it was my mom's favorite candy bowl that she had ever since I was little

The older kids want something to do on Halloween too. Let them participate if they want to. It sucks that people reach an age where society thinks that we're all up to no good. I went to Disney's Halloween party last year and one of the best parts was being able to trick or treat again.

In my country where Halloween is secondary and not as big as the US, trick-or-treating takes place mostly in malls and a handful of local communities. That custom has an upper age limit, particularly 12 years of age, in almost all settings. I can say that having an upper age limit is more of a personal decision yet it is used as a general rule in that country. People in that country think that Halloween is just for kids, which is a common misconception. It's a shame, though. Because of that, I didn't taste that fun activity since I was 7, now I'm 26.

I say that if you’re still in school (not college), as long as you dress up, go ahead. I only look down on the teenagers who are “too cool” to trick or treat, and realize around 7 or 8 that they made a huge mistake, and go out WITHOUT a costume. Like, it’s not hard! Most teenage boys have some sort of sports jersey. I mean, try. I had one middle school trick or treat with us tonight, and he had on regular clothes, but he brought a mask. That counts!

I think this has changed over time. Back in the 80’s when I was a kid, boys would usually stop trick or treating after 6th grade (when starting junior high/middle school) and girls would trail off a little later. It always seemed then that during their senior year, girls would head out with their friends again on Halloween in a kind of last hurrah of childhood. Today, I see a much greater mix of ages through middle and high school. I’ve even had a couple of young adults at my door. If they’re just having innocent fun, I don’t have a problem with it.

I just hope people aren’t rude to the teen who dress up and would like to trick or treat.. kids aren’t kids long enough these days. What’s a piece of candy to a crushed heart? “You’re too old to trick or treat..now go find some trouble like a “normal” teen!” My son is 15 .. and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 8. In the last two years, he lost his grandpa’s who he was really close to,his dad and I split after 17 years and he moved back to California..(his dad struggles with mental health due to a head injury that completely changed him) He’s very shy and quiet, and it was hard for him to make friends when he was singled out in school as “different”.. He wasn’t able to sleep over at friends because understandably parents don’t want to deal with/afraid of a child with diabetes and needles.(also the diabetes caused him to wet the bed very late) Not to mention starting a new school along w/ the pandemic isolation definitely changed him. He’s working with counseling and guidance counselors because in the past month, he came to me crying he hasn’t had a friend for the last two years. He feels awkward around people and doesn’t know how to open up to kids.. even tho he wants to. 😢💔 it kills me when he says he’s so sad that he sometimes doesn’t want to be here anymore. He’s always loved Halloween. He’s doing better and actually lit up at the thought of trick-or-treating. He’s taking his 12-year-old sister along with his aunt.. he did dress up, I just pray he doesn’t caught 💩 tonight.
