Should Video Game Lock Picking be Remastered?

I wish all RPG games had lock picking mini games as good as this! As much as I enjoy picking locks in Fallout 4, Skyrim or hacking terminals in Fallout New Vegas I do really enjoy the refreshing game design in Atomic Heart. Reinventing the locked door problem with a fun but short puzzle is a great idea! #ad

@@jayson1505 to stop the player from immediately bypassing it. But if you also give the player the means to bypassing the door, why bother doing it? Imagine, for instance, that there are three doors. One is red, one is yellow, and then the third one is red again. If a bypass tool isn't consumable, then arranging them in this order makes no sense. All you've done is needlessly locked a door that the player has already proven they can get through. I don't want to play a shitty fucking mini game that the devs spent less time designing than I will engaging with it every time they arbitrarily decided to lock a door that doesn't need to be locked because I already showed that I can, indeed, get through it. Atomic Heart isn't a game about picking locks, it's a game about shooting things.

@Zanthum
@Zanthum Жыл бұрын
This needs more likes. I came down to say the same. Add to it that as the game progressed the locks got more complicated with more pieces that had different effects and trap tiles on the board as well as adding in late game that depending on what you were trying to unlock/hack the complexity of the puzzle would be more or less difficult. And on top of that you could have passive skills that made hacking easier, but your tactics on how to approach the device could make it easier e.g. you could spend some eve to use a plasmid on the device to slow down the liquid to give you more time. Or my favorite, intentionally setting off alarms to have security bots deployed after you, hack and disable the bots to set off the alarm again, and then after a few minutes you have an army of robot bodyguards.

Especially in level 70+ runs where it reverses direction each time and you have to hit every single one. Its a really simple single button minigame but its tactile, skill based and it does a good job of matching the fast pace of the game.

I might be weird, but I’m one of those people that want to focus on the actual story of the game instead of trying to open a freakin door for 3 minutes EDIT: So many butthurt people here.. they don’t seem to understand it is not the difficulty of it that’s the problem. It’s the process of doing something totally irrelevant to the objective. This isn’t how you open a door, it’s just a little mini-game they’ve added to water out the levels and make the game longer. If the main goal was to solve a puzzle, like for instance in the Uncharted games, then it makes complete sense. (Btw, I’ve played all of them and enjoyed every single one). Puzzles don’t bother me, I actually like doing them if there’s a purpose for it. But aimlessly putting random puzzles on doors, with no connection to anything whatsoever, is simply lazy game-development. This is something you’d see in older games, when demands on devs and games weren’t that high. At that time, gaming was new and exciting no matter what. I think we’ve moved past that by now.

The one with the pins is super easy if you know the trick to them. It doesn't move around randomly, it goes from spinning clockwise and counterclockwise, and switches when you snap. So you can simply unlock it without much struggle by spacing your snaps out correctly. You get one that's in a spot you like, let it cycle through, and get the one close but on the opposite side of the cycle, so when it reverses the one just before the one you just pressed in. It will reverse and start going back through to the first one, you hit the one before that and repeat, at the last two, you'll pretty much have to press the button twice. Learning this and figuring out the correct pattern made it so I haven't even failed a pin since.

The main issue with lockpicking minigames is that they need to hold up 20,30, even 70 or more hours in the game if you're to meet a lot of locked doors. Usually they're also a total stop from the action, which might be a turnoff for many.

Oblivion's lockpicking was very unique and interesting. Definitely my favorite video game lockpick system. It stands out particularly in that it really makes you feel like you're performing an extremely delicate, precise task, instead of the typical rotating bobby pin system that's basically just brute-force experimentation.

I disagree, I liked the puzzles in the game but you do realize, it's sort of a survival FPS game, it shares A TON of DNA with Resident Evil so IDK why people are so shocked there's puzzles in this game.
@SavveGaming

@@123sleepygamer it’s not really a puzzle though… it’s just a tedious extra thing you’re more or less forced to do. Especially if you have a ton of locked doors. It’s repetitive and boring imo. I’d rather actually fight stuff and play the game than fiddle with locked doors. I see why some enjoy it, but this puzzles are honestly why I completely stopped playing RPGs. They just feel tedious and stupid more often than not.

Speaking of, the lockbox residential that my boss decided to use for a 4 digit combo is really a 3 digit keypad that doesn't mater what order you can use for the combo. Lets say its 712, 217 or 127 or 721 all work

The locks that you have to have a super quick reaction time with to hit the colors correctly were a bit hard for me as I failed them about 40 times throughout the game but I can only feel sorry for people with arthritis or any other condition that significantly reduces their reaction time which makes it impossible to progress through the game.

There are three different types of puzzle locks in warframe. One teats reaction speed, one is lining up geometric patterns, and one inverts your controls. They all have really short timers. Then theres just about every ratchet and clank game. This is definitely neat, but i feel like you need to diversify your library

@@sweetinvictus654 mate, i like puzzles, lockpicking/hacking puzzles included, i just think most triple a inclusions of them over saturate the game to the point they're often mandatory, can kill the pace of the game, and even break emersion, plus often have to be super easy, since halting your progression in an action game because you can't solve a puzzle is frustrating. again i like puzzles, all puzzles, but because of these reasons i can't see them as good game design.
