Kinda wouldn't make sense. The issue being demo and what currency is most relevant. USD is the most relevant currency full stop, no discussion needed on that. Next part is the demo and NA probably dominates for English wow videos so makes sense to use USD considering NA almost exclusively uses USD for online purchases.

So it's worth mentioning with respect to testing, that a lot of what Dragonflight offers (the talent trees, profession update and UI change) will be testable on the 10.0 PTR as well as the alpha/beta. I think Blizzard may be banking on that. Previous expansions needed longer alpha/beta testing because the majority of their systems were embedded in the expansion proper, no systems to test on the PTR.

@@CornbreadPops Exactly, and the 10.0 patch will be on the PTR soon, it's already on the wowdev branch (which is usually where it goes before it hits PTR) so I expect that 10.0 will hit the PTR at the same time as the alpha/beta invites start going out.

At this point I’m really not worried at all because my opinion of modern day wow is pretty much so low that I have zero expectations. So for me the only place they can go is up. My guess is that the talent systems are actually responsible for the seemingly shorter public testing phase. Unlike borrowed power systems, they need to be almost completely in and functional from day 1 of testing. That means the public alpha comes out later, but doesn't push the actual release date back nearly as much (it does some, but not 1:1).

Also Dragonflight doesn't seem to have infinitely repeatable content like Torghast and stuff, which was a big part of why Shadowlands was staying in alpha/beta for so long.

Yeah, what i actually think is that the expansion have been in the works for a long time already, and the new design direction is basically much much simpler than it has been so far. Without having to design entire systems and new content from scratch the raw amount of things that need to be checked and testes is WAAY less. The dragin flights were probably meant to be covenants 2.0 and they have basically ditched all of that leaving only the renwon paths and cosmetic rewards - something much easier to implement and manage. I'm pretty sure we're going to get "less" content at release, meaning most efforts will be going into obviously the new zones/tier and then we have talents and professions revamp. Which i'm fine with, and i hope it translates into more open world stuff to do and not just some sort of "you must do ti before ntering raids" because it sucked when it was called attunement and it still sucked when it was "run thorghast to craft your legendary".

The biggest hurdle for talent trees will be in the overall layout of each spec/class. The talents themselves are pulled from previous content (set bonuses, talents, legion powers, covenants). Blizzard wont need to make any new talents for these trees. They have a long list of previous talents and powers in their library to pull from. They have the OG template from Vanilla - Wrath to draw inspiration from. The big hurdles will be the dragon riding and crafting. I'm pretty sure Blizzard will nail or at least be on target for the talent trees. It also looks like they will be reusing a lot of old skeletons and frameworks for npcs and mobs. I'm pretty sure that there will be a nice glow up for the new races spell effects. If Blizzard concentrates on core game design (quests, story and flow) this will be one of the better expansions.

I been playing since wow started and back then til now most expansions back then were done 2 yrs apart and were always just before Christmas. I am not in the least suprised at release date. If they do like they did for 9.2.5 where there were some aspects like the Lordaeron quests are left out of the testing phase along with things like some raid bosses like the final 3 for SotFO in 9.2 then there are going to be things not in the testing phases going forward . THis may lead to a shorter testing phase . Basically focusing on testers mainly focusing on the new talent system and bugs

Talent trees don't look as complicated as they initially appear, since there's clearly defined paths through each one that leans into specific playstyles. Granted, my assumption is based on only looking at two of them, but still. There's no new abilities in the ones we can see right now. Which is fine. 9.2 content was basically done in late summer/early fall of 2021. Alpha started for 9.2 in November (after it was announced on 11/11/2021). The lead time into Dragonflight has actually be longer than most expansions.

I KNEW IT WOULD BE 2022! :D I believe they have the game in a good state of development for many of the reasons mentioned. -There's no extra gameplay/player power system, so less work to do there that can be used for the professions, for example. -Content was cut from SL, so resources were allocated to Dragonflight instead a long time ago, for sure. -The new talent trees don't requiere extreme amounts of work (balancing for sure, but design wise, they are made mostly of a bunch of already existing spells and passives that just need to be woven together). The alpha/beta work for sure will be focused on the balancing of the talent trees, since it needs to be ready for prepatch, but the rest doesn't demand excessive amounts of extra work like Covenants, Azerite and such needed, so for sure it can be ready before Dec 31th.

Think you have a mistake at 3:36. Considering that Dracthyr are supposed to be starting at Dragon Isles and "All new race & class, the Dracthyr Evoker (available at or before launch)". So most likely only the new class/race combinations are going to be available in pre-patch.

I am worried slightly about the quality of the game and if it will be fun or not. Just bc it hasn’t been good since legion and even before then since wrath expansions have been hit or miss. No amount of time or play testing will make a bad game good if it’s not fun or badly written

I also find a release this year hard, BUT I do have theories why it is possible. 1. What Ian said in the interview, and you showed in this video. 2. Blizzard also said that they were developing Shadowlands and Dragonflight at the same time. 3. I think patch 9.2 was later than "needed", not because of incompletion, but some "free" time for blizz to work on Dragonflight. 4. In general, I belive much of Shadowlands slow patch schedule, is a bit because of Dragonflight development. Prob cuz they want to "catch up" on their patch/expansion schedule. 5. The new talent system ARE the old borrowed power. It will be new passives/abilities in the talent systems, but I think there is still stuff from the old trees/conduits/Covenants/Azerite/Artifact/Legos, etc. That have already been tested in past expansions, something that will make the developing process of the new talent trees faster, compared to a brand new borrowed power system with brand new passives/abilites. 6. New talent system is ONE (1) system, Shadowlands had Covenants, Conduits(3x4 different trees for each spec), and Legos.

I am cautiously very optimistic. My hope is that the "new team" (i.e. minus the higher-ups & other people that were let go / etc. due to the issues at Blizz) is saying "Screw it, the old guys were holding us back, we got this" and will *quickly* react to any Alpha/Beta feedback as opposed to it going in some forum post weeks after the fact, and actually launch Dragonflight on-time (even if "on-time" could be 11:59 PM on December 31st lol). I really hope this goes well for them. Also, not tying anything major to the preorder (like say, Allied Races or anything), Dracthyr notwithstanding for the prepatch (which is likely to be what, 2-3 weeks?), means preordering the CE and not needing to do the "also purchase Heroic/Epic edition and get credited back after you enter your key" shenanigans makes me a bit happier. Do I miss out on using the cosmetic stuff til then? Yeah, but I'm not too miffed at it :D
