Should we work unrecognized DXCC Entity Call Signs? | Donetsk Peoples Republic is on the air!

For the first time over the weekend a D0 station from the self proclaimed ‘Donetsk Peoples Republic’ came back to my CQ call on 10m.
The question is, should we be working these none-ITU recognised stations? Politics has no place in amateur radio so what is the general opinion? Radio Oddities takes a look…

No, as they aren't a recognised prefix with the ITU they are technically pirate stations.

Yes technically they are but I’m guessing they hold an original Ukraine licence

I just avoid them, as they are pirates. You regularly see them appearing on FT8 mode.

I don’t use FT8 but I see lots online about pirate stations on there too

Talk to them or not talk to them. The only people who will care are the dreaded band police, you know the ones. I would have spoken, but would of course avoid political type conversation.

Yes I wished him well and didn’t talk politics but the band police are always listening

In my opinion, people are people. If someone's a hobbyist and not trying to push an agenda, I'd respond. It could be the only bit of enjoyment he could be getting

No I haven’t but as an unlicensed user myself I would have shown a kind human heart and engaged in a chinwag with him he maybe just wanted someone to talk to and give out a few updates on life the main stream media doesn’t tell us here 👌🏼
