🧐 thank you for this video! For years I’ve wrestled with the call to pastoral ministry. One of the main reasons is that there’s been an ongoing tension between the internal/external call in that the external affirmation from others (godly and mature Christians) has been very strong and may have influenced what I perceive to be an internal calling to the ministry. At the same time not wanting to deny what these folk are seeing in me. I’ve now pastored for several years and the Lord has used me in many ways to minister to His people yet I still wrestle. I’ve recently stepped down and believe there’s a better fit for me elsewhere while still applying pastoral type skills/gifting etc. I align with a number of comments Darryl made about why he is not a pastor in particular the type of love for others. The relentless nature of pastoral ministry can easily lead to obligation-driven activity to get through the day more so than love-driven action for the sake of others. I could go on but just a couple of thoughts for a helpful video. Thanks again 😎

Hi Darryl, I think you are pastoring your flock of students in their efforts to more clearly understand God's message through the Bible with your passion and love for the Lord and His Word. You are a pastor, my brother and friend, even though we've never met.

I feel called to seminary. I don’t think typical pastoral ministry is for me though.

People don’t realise what is involved in being a pastor. Some think that it’s like, first you start being an ordinary Christ then you progress up the ranks then you’ve made it when you are a Pastor. If you don’t have the ability to connect with people with problems, you are probably not called to be a pastor. To many people are put into Ministry because they are talented or attractive or are extroverts. The best thing to do if you are wondering about if you’re called to be a pastor spend a week with him. My old friend told a story about the time his pastor visited him with someone wanting to be a Pastor he said to the main pasta. Why do I have to spend time with these people with problems that man became a Pastor and it didn’t end well for him? He ended up leaving his wife and married someone he met on the Internet.

According to the Pastoral Epistles, one must be examined and ordained by the laying on of hands in Apostolic Succession. Calvin wished for this and his followers through the Anglican Church but never received it. To be a real "pastor"/presbyter one must be sacramentally ordained.

Certainly, I agree, however, just because you're ordained doesn't mean you must become a pastor. I was ordained by a very godly group of long-serving and respected elders. Ordination is a seal of approval for ministry, but not necessarily a mandate.

@@bma I'm an ordained deacon. My bishop wants me to become a pastor/ presbyter but I told him that I don't believe I am called to receive the sacrament to become a pastor. Once you are ordained as a pastor, you are always a pastor, just like when you receive the sacrament of baptism. Once you are baptized you are always baptized.
